US anime distributor FUNimation have continued their recent licensing spree by acquiring 2007's baseball anime Ookiku Furikabutte! (and renamed it 'Big Windup!'). The 26 episode sports anime is as highly regarded amongst baseball fans for its unique take on the psychology of team-sport as it is amongst female fans for its vaguely homoerotic subtext. As is ever the case with FUNimation's anime licenses, we wait to see whether or not it's picked up by their UK distributor Revelation Films too.

I really liked Ookiku Furikabutte, it's an excellent sports anime, but I guess you might be right, Ryo Chan. The UK isn't too crazy on baseball, so releasing it over here probably doesn't make much business sense. Then again, I would hope that the quality might see it through?

did prince of tennis ever get a release her?

i'd of thought that would do good during Wimbledon fever

Prince of tennis, only the manga made to UK, by Viz. What about Slam dunk? It's great fun, but never made it. :( Possibly, my favourite non-fighting sport anime.

My usual reaction to sports manga/anime "DO NOT WANT" But since this is Funimation we're talking about... guaranteed A+ dub I may look into it.

I loved this anime, sometimes the games drag on way to long, one lasts 5 or 6 eps but the story of the players is worth it

I think FUNi have too many unreleased licenses. If they keep adding to this backlog of theirs, it'll be donkey's before we see any of them.

I don't think people will be too pleased if we see other titles being held for a year without hearing anything, and even more so if we see newer licenses taking priority over year old licenses.

Nevertheless, I'll look forward to seeing what this is like.
