Bandai USA license My-Otome and TIDE-LINE BLUE

Bandai USA have announced their acquisitions of My-Otome, a popular (26 episode) shonen magical girl series from 2005 set within an alternate universe to My-HiME - featuring some of the same characters but changing their roles and personalities, and the submarine-inflicted action series TIDE-LINE BLUE.

Brilliant, I love Tide-Line Blue, the story was a little weird at times but for a short series (13 eps) it really did fill a void in my veiwing diary

I guess we're lucky though, our DVD releases of My HiME have been generally alot better standard (well, in comparison terrific standard) than North America. As long as Beez release Otome over here in the same manner as they have HiME (preferably minus the delays in discs and reshuffling of release dates) then I'm sure it will be a great release.

As for the mai/my debate. The japanese producers used My-HiME for their internet websites, so My-HiME would be the chosen name. It's a shame Bandai didn't have the foresight to release reversible covers or something like that with Mai on one side and My on the other, so as to please those who choose each spelling.

as far as i can see the voice actors are the same, so i can't see how.

don't get me wrong i'm collecting mai hime and mai otome on dvd but i am only watching the japanese sub as i can't stand bandai's blue water dub (the same with their dragonball and GT dubs)

as for the Mai/my part, thats just a long running comment from me refusing to only translate it part way and not keep it as mai-hime or name it to my princess

on a side note, i do wonder what Bandai's delay is on the final volume, 3 months since vol 6 and no word on #7

The fact is that the intention of the (original) title was to be a play on the word "my" and the change, such that it was, of the title was basically at the request of the original creators. I have never particularly understood the problem some people have with the localisation of names and such. It is not like it denegrates the quality of the story at all and where the English dub doesn't do it for you then you have, in most cases at least, the option of the original language.

The HiME part remains because it is an acronym that is integral to the anime and really can't be changed without confusing people. I don't know whether the same applies to otome since I haven't seen the series myself but would guess it is the case.
