BBC said:
Dr Mao was found to have ignored the parent's pleas for help when the baby's condition worsened.

"When efforts were being made to save the baby, the mother got on her knees in the doorway of the ear, nose and throat department and pleaded for help," the health department's statement said.

The baby died the next morning, 4 November, from complications caused by an eye infection, the statement said.

How bad can an addiction get? This news is simply too absurd...

It could be less shocking if he didn't chose to completely ignore the mother. This guy deserves more than simply being fired. He should be trialed for manslaughter!

I believe that one who has the ability to save someone's life who chooses not to without a legitimate reason* should be treated as if they committed manslaughter, as it is allowing death through inactivity.

*such as putting your own life at risk. Not everyone is a hero.

Because of course, British doctors are so much better...

memo, I don't think it's really fair to say that this could only happen in China, or that "most of this ****" seems to happen there. It's inaccurate and frankly a bit xenophobic. All countries have negligent doctors, murderers, rapists etc...it's not certain nationalities which behave this way, just certain humans.

i'm not saying certain countries behave in this way

it's just that everytime i hear about something like this on the news, it seems to be in China

I know you're not really being xenophobic memo, but these kind of statements tend to irk me a little. We all have to realise our failings as humans, not blame other people based on something as all-encompassing as nationality / race / gender.

My little Zen statement for the day. :p

Old news is old.

But I do think it's terrible that the parents are being allowed to stick their fingers in their ears like that. If your kids have been sexually abused they need to talk about it and possibly counselling of some sort, not for their parents to pretend it never happened... This could really screw these kids up (not to mention their relationships with their parents) if they start to remember what happened in later life.
