This anime is called Area 88 and is a 3 part anime (4 hours long). It was made in 1985 and is one of the best anime to be released outside Japan. It's one of the deepest and most emotionally moving anime to ever grace our minds. It has everything from action to drama to romance.

Many fans outside Japan know only the game counterpart. The hit game Area 88 also known as UN Squadron in the US was based on the anime and released in 1989.

hmmmm judging but the name do you think this is an ad?

UN Squadron ROCKED, had it on my SNES and loved playing the different levels and buying new planes (one of the only games I recall you can buy planes for different styles of use eg. air or land assault)

Lol, i wouldn't say it's an ad but an attempt at increasing fan awareness of one of the all time classics.

Everyone needs to check this out especially any fans who have played the game or read the manga.

It's up there with titles such as Gunbuster and Wings of Honneamise.

So what you're saying is that this is not an ad. You'd just like to advertise to anime fans. Hrmm.

Questionable postings aside, Area 88 is a great old-skool anime. I borrowed the R1 version from a friend recently, and loved it. ADV are releasing an R2 version soon, but they're seperating it into two volumes instead of just one. Still very much worth seeing though, particularly if you like airborne combat or military action.
