Appleseed Ex Machina

I liked it. Good simple story that works, some amazing action scenes. I quite liked the CG animation, but for the levels of realism there did not seem enough shading a grading. I want Tereus's leather jacket.

I liked the first apple seed, didnt realise this one was out yet! will have to check it out.

I'm guessing it's an import as it seems only the R1 version is out at the moment. Anyhow, the first Appleseed was an enjoyable movie, but the more emotional aspects and character animation dragged it down a fair bit. Still, it had some good action sequences.

Ex-machina

I bought the region 1 2-disc special edition a couple of weeks ago.If you even remotely liked the first appleseed movie you'll love this one as it's far superior in almost every aspect. The fight scenes especially are ramped up(the opening scene in the church is pure john woo). :D

However if you watch the extras they explain the opening scene was pretty much finished before John Woo come on board.

I've finally seen it now it's out on R2. Found it to be a pretty average sci-fi actioner really. Nothing too imaginative or profound to speak of. Still, it was vastly superior to the original at least in most regards and was entertaining enough despite it's flaws.

My biggest gripe is with the release rather than the film itself, it doesn't include the japanese dub. The english voice cast were okay (minus Briareos who was awful), but the syncing just didn't look right. Perhaps it's due to the more detailed speech animations in CGI? Reminded me of old 70's dubs for Kung Fu movies :(

Just watched it there today too on Blu-Ray, looks fantastic to say the least.

Just checked my copy and the Blu-Ray version does have the Japanese dub with English subtitles. It also comes with Cantonese, Dutch, French and German dub 8)

The story is merely an excuse for some kick-ass action scenes :D

Is it based on the manga or a "new" story?

I saw the other movie and didnt like it due to not being anything like the "orginal"... I maybe a purist?

I think it's original, although elements from various stories seem to be present, sort of like SAC. I haven't read all the Appleseed manga, but what I read seemed fairly episodic, so I guess a direct film adaption wouldn't really work.

It's an original. it introduces things to the series that are not present to the manga, while having many of the characteristics of it.
