Another FUNimation C&D!

Jaymii

Baka Ranger
Shinsen-Subs have been sent another cease and desist letter ("on behalf of d-rights Inc"). I'm pretty happy about it, The chances of REBORN! getting licensed seems more likely now. Yeah, we know its not going to stop the fansubbing of it. But, Its made me more curious.

The other shows are: Monochrome Factor, Nabari no Ou.

I certainly hope Reborn! gets licensed soon, it'd be great to own on DVD. I've been waiting for an English version of it for quite sometime.

Ah, Yeah, Reborn's so-called "Introduction" arcs are pretty awful. The anime split it up into three parts so far, the first being 1 - 19. Then for about 7 episodes, which shows Reborn's serious attitude and full on potential kicks off somewhat, and then another Intro arc hits for about 6 episodes, which in my opinion I enjoyed better due to the fact I could see that the series actually delivered after so long. Then, once you hit the Vongola Rings arc, you really see how good it really is. The battles are some of the best I've seen in a JUMP anime.

Neuro, I watched the first episode. I liked the Neuro's dude face, I never got around to watching it all and Gintama I enjoy very much. I dunno how well a show like that would even sell, The manga is getting released so I imagine a eventual release in a decade or so wouldn't be too hard to do.

least it's not macross or geass

What do you mean? "not"?

Geass has already been licensed (all seasons) anyway.

Well so far Geass's release has been a farce and most people are having to wait an extra month to get a decent copy of the dvd

As for macross, no one seems to give a damn about licencing the francise at the moment.

So if it comes down to fansubs or bad/no DVD releases, i'll take the fansubs ;)

Although to be fair, the main Geass reason would be, it's so near the end now, i think people might suffer depression having to wait 2 years to finally finish it

The second season is coming out straight after the end of the first season, in America. Seeing as the third and final part of season 1's release in January, going from what Bandai Entertainment have said the first part of "R2" should be coming in March 2009, with the whole thing done by Summer 2009 it'd not really too far from Japan's release.

Yeah Geass's release has really been ****** up big time by Bandai, but it still doesn't mean people should just give up and watch fansubs instead...

If all the 'fans' who like Macross e-mailed their concerns to Harmony Gold and all the Japanese licensors then maybe the standstill affecting the franchise might move along a bit. Sure, it will probably change nothing, but it's better than just moaning about it never coming out and just going and watching the fansub.

not a case of just watching fansubs anyway, i'm already sat here waiting for my Code Geass LE to arrive. It's just if you stopped watching the fan subs now, by the time the dvd does arrive, the show would be yesterdays news.

When was the last time you saw a big discussion about Eureka 7? it's only just finished getting released here but it's no where near as popular a talking point now as it was after the fansubs were done.

This is why i say anime needs to be released to us as quick as possible, even if it's just in sub form, as Anime is like fashion, if you don't keep up with it, you'll soon find yourself watching yesterdays news

Anyway i'm not promoting people should watch fansubs rather than buy DVD's, and i personally stop watching a fansub once a C&D order comes through.

But some companies do take the mick, Funi for 1, put a C&D on Negima!? after episode 12 saying they licenced it, so no more fansubs came along

2 years later............... oh look no Negima!?

It's absolutely nothing to do with Funimation that they can't bring shows here out simultaneously, it's absolutely 100% down to the Japanese licensors and committee's who slow things down and ultimately only care about their own industry (until the money stops coming in).

I suggest people have a good read through this. A proper panel debate between lots of the fansubbers (Dattebayo, Shinsen), Lance Heiskell the marketing director of Funimation, and John Sirabella owner of Media Blasters and another Media Blasters guy.

Good stuff there. I heard about that panel happening, and am glad to have been able to read a transcript of it. Though, it doesn't really solve much. I imagine that all of the panelists are gonna go back to what they were doing regardless.

It also pretty much sums up what we already know. That the japanese companies take forever with the agreements for the american companies, and the reason fansubs can be made so quickly is that they don't have to deal with that.

Also, that the market is going to move to downloads and ad-supported streaming.

And this is exactly why the general quality of today's anime is going down the shitter. People are too bloody worried about keeping up with what's happening now in case they miss it. This is why I limit myself to 3 shows that are currently airing at any one time.

I really don't see the problem of watching old stuff, or at least stuff that ha been released at least 1 / 2 years earlier....

Yeah, it's that sort of nonsence, and I honestly don't care who's responcible for it, that realy makes the whole "Stop downloading" arguemnt look a little, well, crap to be honest.
I meen, I'd hate to be a Sgt. Frog fan or something. Oh wait, .... F-!

Infact, there was some news that Funimation was going to chase after people who have done Slayers Revolution next under the instructions of Entoki films.
However, the helerious thing there is, they would just be Entoki Film's attack dogs in that situation, there's no garantee they'd get the rights to Slayers Revolution, it's highly likely, yes, but there's no garantee.

They do themselves absolutly no favours when they act as a companie's attack dog for no real reason other than to get cosy with them.
