Hey,

I turned on the tv the other weekend and saw studio ghibli on bbc 2. at first i was shocked, then pleased. Does anyone know if this is a one off or if BBC 2 have said they'll be trying to show Ghibli work regularly?

23rd April
12:00–14:00 Spirited Away
Animated film. A young Japanese girl finds her parents have been turned into pigs.

It'd be nice to see them show more ghibli films more often though, may even introduce more fans... or am i just pipe dreaming?

Spirited Away pops up on BBC 2 every easter or christmas or bank holiday, and film 4 shows Ghibli movies every now and then and a few weeks ago chennel 4 were showing a Ghibli movie every week but at ungodly hours during the night they did not start until 3 or 4 in morning lol, just need to check the listings.

Yeah but does anyone know why they only show them around easter and christmas? surely if they showed ghibli films more often then they won't lose any watchers because hardly anyone watches the channel anyway.

Ghibli movies are regarded as family movies so the beeb will only pull them out the vaults on the holiday season just like they always show Toy Story,Ants or Over the Hedge etc,but yeah it would be nice to see Ghibli movies on a more frequent basis on U.K. televison and at reasonable times but thats just wishful thinking.

I kind of wish we could move on from Ghibli, once upon a time, Akira blessed our screens late one evening, it's just a shame we couldn't have a better variety of films.
Yeah it would be really cool if one of the channels would do a run of Satoshi Kon or Mamoru Oshii movies now that i would love to see but if Ghibli even gets dumped to the early hours i dont think there is any chance of anything else coming onto our screen anytime soon.

Film 4 has had a few Anime films on. not often but more often than the bbeb as i think they had a whole season devoted to Ghibli a one or two years back.

You'd be lucky to see Perfect Blue on BBC 2, or 3, or 4 even unless it was after midnight.

I think I can remember ITV showing the original Ghost in the Shell film. I certainly remember that there was an edition of The South Bank Show devoted to anime.

I know with 100% certainty that The South Bank Show had an anime episode. I think they showed Ghost in the Shell or some other anime film (maybe Akira) afterwards.

Hm, ITV would never do that these days. Maybe BBC2 or C4.
