Recently we discovered Amazon had posted new listings for distributor Anime Limited for their planned release slate between October and December 2017. Let’s take a look in greater detail!
Now then where to begin? Well let’s take a look at the brand new license acquisitions that Amazon basically spoiled. All of the new licenses include both English dub and original Japanese audio with English subtitles unless specified.
Ajin: Demi-Human & Ajin: Compel
Available to stream on Netflix (TV Series only)
The Netflix Original series from studio Polygon Pictures is coming to the UK, and it’s not just the first season but also the first film entitled Compel. For those who don’t know, the Movie Trilogy was theatrically released before the TV version and both of them have different conclusions. Anime Limited currently only have the rights to the first season and first film based on current knowledge but they have planned a collector’s edition Blu-ray release and standard edition DVD release, both with a tentative release date for 27th November 2017. My guess is that you don’t have to worry too much about delays, as both the first season and the first movie have been rated by the BBFC with a 15 rating. The Movie Trilogy will be subtitled only. Vertical are distributing the original manga source material if you are interested (which is also available to read online via Crunchyroll)!
Chrono Crusade
Available to stream on Animax UK
Previously distributed in the UK by ADV Films, the 2003 series from studio GONZO returns under Anime Limited’s label. The series will be given a new complete standard DVD release with a tentative release date for 4th December 2017.
Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash
Available to stream on Crunchyroll & Funimation
Also known as ‘Grimgar, Ashes & Illusions’ which is apparently the incorrect name for the series, the show from studio A-1 Pictures is coming to the UK under Anime Limited’s label rather than Funimation, similarly to Prison School. The series is planned for a collector’s edition Blu-ray release and standard edition DVD release, both with a tentative release date for 30th October 2017. Seven Seas are distributing the original light novel source material if you are interested (with the light novel also available to read via J-Novel Club)!
Peacemaker Kurogane
What seems to be bundled alongside Chrono Crusade by studio GONZO, Peacemaker Kurogane is coming to the UK for the first time on DVD as a complete series standard set with a tentative release date for 27th November 2017. In the states, ADV Films previously helmed the rights before Funimation acquired them. The manga is also receiving a new anime adaptation in the works by studio White Fox of Re:ZERO & Steins;Gate fame.
The Testament of Sister New Devil
Available to stream on Crunchyroll
The raunchy and rather lewd series from studio Production IMS is coming to the UK from Anime Limited under the Crunchyroll label. This also seems to be the first title to be released from Anime Limited’s Crunchyroll backlog as well which is a surprise. Be prepared however as the BBFC may not be too kind to the series (however in recent years they have accepted a number of ecchi titles like Daimidaler, Prison School & Shimoneta). Anywho the first season is planned for a collector’s edition Blu-ray release and standard edition DVD release, both with a tentative release date for 27th November 2017. The show will be using the same masters as Funimation’s release so expect the uncensored version. Seven Seas are distributing the manga adaptation of the source material if you are interested!
Next up we have the existing titles now set for this fourth quarter. Unfortunately as we have previously mentioned, Anime Limited have been known for unexpected delays so for now these are currently tentative release dates and could change in the last minute. Just to point out Ajin, Durarara!!x2 Ten, Fairy Tail Part 19, Genius Party, Momotaro and Your Name have all been rated for home video by the BBFC.
