Japanese newspaper the Daily Yomiuri have posted a brief but interesting articleabout how Japanese animation is spreading over the globe; the medium now accounting for nearly 60% of the world's animation.

Specifically the article spotlights how the football anime "Captain Majed" (aka "Captain Tsubasa") was recently exported to Iraq and has clearly become a big sucess. To the delight of the local children, when Japanese water supply trucks visited Iraq, large Captain Majed stickers were stuck on the vechicles; the iconic images effortlessly trancending local language barriers and strongly conveying a benevolent message of peace. I wonder if they're aware that it's from Japan. >_>

That's the point of putting the stickers on the side of the trucks. I wonder if Iraqi otaku are complaining about Tsubasa being "cut to shreds" and renamed to Majed ;)

That's really cool :).

It sounds like a nice way of spinning something that was something of a political disaster in Japan (deploying troops outside of Japan into a warzone) into a positive story.

i used to watch Captain Majed (Tsubasa) when i was a kid when i used to live in Abu Dhabi (the capital of U.A.E) it was and still is one of my all time fav's! such an awsome series.
