Animax launching in Spain

Interesting, I can't believe how long it takes Sony to launch this channel for all/most of the EU, I imagine it has something to do with getting a hold of all the dubs. Hopefully something will develop with it in the UK that I can be excited about. I'd be curious about the shows it would show, as well with other channels around stealing some of the main ones it airs in the states.

I doubt this IPTV will be in use by the UK anytime soon, anyhow.

Sony want to launch it here, it's just apparently they want to bring over all THREE of their channels together, not just one.

They can't do this because there's no more bandwith free for them to use. I don't know why they can't use Sky... there's plenty of bandwith left there. I'm pretty sure they're trying to get it on Freeview, or so I've read.

Hopefully it'll happen in 2009 when analogue is switched off, thus making Ofcom and the Government sort out a new system, or update the current systems.

Sony seem to be having the same problem in a lot of European countries as well, so meh, it'll come to us eventually.

Right, I see.

I guess Sony don't want their channels to go Free to Air then, but seriously.. couldn't they just get a bit more bandwith from those several hundred ridiculous porn channels and shopping channels and whatever else is on the last few hundred...

There's loads of numbers that aren't taken up with anything, so I can't see how Sky can claim they're full.

Channel numbers don't correspond to how much bandwith there is on the satellites that Sky use, they could have billions of channel numbers and it wouldn't make a difference to their bandwith.

When I was in Barcelona, anime and manga seemed to be quite popular. Anime was regularly on TV, and every bookstore (no matter how small) had at least one manga stand. So, I reckon Animax Spain has a bright future! :]

Yup, the UK really isn't part of the whole European anime acknowledgement.. thing..

The majority of people (mainly young) just have no inspiration or.. anything.. these days.

I don't think that's it, but there's definitely a huge cultural difference between the UK and Ireland and the rest of Europe ...

Yes, we're more like America. A different way of doing things, I suppose the mainstreams press reluctance to adopt anything European doesn't help either.

It'll never happen. You'd obsolete EVERY freeview STB and digital ready TV out there. They backed the wrong horse and we're all stuck with it.

There has been enough faf already with poor signals and crappy pictures, if OFCOM turned around and said 'Oh, BTW, we've changed our minds on which DVBT standard to use and everything you've bought is now useless' there would be riots.

Add to that the DAB farce where radio stations are pulling out of DAB due to OFCOM not giving a date for analogue switchoff...

Sky has lots of bandwidth if you're willing to pay, DMAX+2 has just launched. WHY?! Who even watches DMAX and DMAX+1?

Animax is launching in Portugal again, through IPTV as well.

It's interesting that they seem to use IPTV to broadcast the channel in Europe, I wonder if a BT/Tiscali launch is imminent, it would get a couple of thousand new customers with an exclusive anime channel.
