Animatsu license Akame ga Kill! and Gatchaman Crowds

The next title from Sentai's package is Gatchaman Crowds.

Note that given they are getting titles from Sentai, don't expect the director's cut of the final episode to be included.

UPDATE - They have also picked up Akame ga Kill!

For those who don't know, Animatsu have licensed 8 Sentai Filmworks titles. Here's the list of what they now own:
- Akame ga Kill!
- Blade and Soul
- Chaika: The Coffin Princess
- Comic Artists and His Assistants
- Gatchaman Crowds

Re: Animatsu license Gatchaman Crowds

I already have Sentai's BD on my shelf (missing footage and all) so this will be another pass for me. Interesting pick.

Re: Animatsu license Gatchaman Crowds

Well, I enjoyed it enough to buy it after watching it streaming :D

It has some fabulous designs and it's quite fun, but never quite lives up to its potential. There are quite a few tributes to the original Gatchaman in the execution. The TV version of the ending isn't all that good, either - something that was supposedly addressed by the director's cut version of the final episode which we never got in the west.

Re: Animatsu license Gatchaman Crowds

I watched it on streaming, I may pick it up if its a reasonable price on blu ray. Not a series I was a massive fan of, so outside of the massively unlikely Directors Cut, there aren't any extras I'd be particularly fussed for.

I wonder if Jerome will be able to push for that to be included in Animatsu's release?

Re: Animatsu license Gatchaman Crowds

I've not seen this before but based on the bits of info I've come across I'll give it a go. Won't be a day 1 purchase though.

Re: Animatsu license Gatchaman Crowds

I knew this would be one of Jerome's licenses since he has expressed interest in it in the past.
I'd honestly forgotten that this has had a home video release in America.

Re: Animatsu license Gatchaman Crowds

Quite interested in this. I'll look forward to seeing a trailer.

Edit: ok saw a trailer, probably rent it if possible, not convinced it's gonna be my thing.

It's on Crunchyroll if you want to check it out.

Thanks but If it's not dubbed, I've got no chance of getting my wife to watch it.

This is ultimately why I'm not that excited about the UK industry (or wasn't until Andrew sailed in with Anime Limited). Dealing with hand-me-downs from other English-speaking countries means we rarely get any positive surprises like this. I'd cheerfully buy it again if they get the bonus footage and show they know how to create discs which don't suck, but I'm not holding my breath on either count. It will probably be the Sentai materials with a BBFC logo on the pack (and a region change wherever required).

I will be very happy if I am proven wrong.

I'm in the same boat as you Rui. I get excited by what Anime Limited do for many reasons but I'm a bit skeptical about Animatsu at this point. It just seems like it's going to be another MangaUK - but this time free from the corporate shackles of Starz - so more freedom to license titles, but still dealing with hand me downs. Since they're licensing a lot of Sentai titles, I'd be likely to buy releases from Animatsu if they can author discs which have better video and normal subtitles (e.g. not massive yellow subs), but if it's just going to be Sentai's discs with a BBFC logo like previously then I don't want any part of it. All that said, I'm waiting to hear what some of their "high profile licenses" are.

Well that's all rather exciting about Akame ga Kill - they needed a big title to launch with, and with AKG, they certainly have one now.

It's weird, as for at least the first half of the show's first cour, I couldn't stand it, but then it suddenly gets really good, and probably has some of the most enjoyable characterization (albeit in a very shlocky, forcing you to feel certain ways about characters, sort of way) I've seen in the past year.

Will probably pick up Akame ga Kill depending on the treatment it gets :) Will also be interesting to see how many of their licenses they manage to get out in 2015! As they're all so new the only one I can see getting released this year is Gatchaman :p (Christmas at a push lol)

Will definitely be getting Chaika if it gets a decent BD release. Gatchaman ... do want but this whole final episode thing .. :S .. I'll probably get the release then check out the directors cut if they're unable to get a hold of it.

Not sure on Comic Artist, will watch an episode of two to see if it's my sort of thing. Avoiding Blade & Soul after all the awful reviews.

Pass on Akame, didn't enjoy the show but a great license! popular show that should put em on the map so I really hope it does well :)

Not going to lie, not doing a whole lot for me this selection.

Crowds "used" the Gatchaman concept as much as [C] "used" the money concept to spout whatever gibberish it thought pertinent to the situation and the lead character is insufferable.

Akame was a whole load of 'eh to me too.
