On Sunday night, Channel 4 broadcasted their much revered "greatest 100 cartoons" rankings, as voted for by the British public. For anime fans, this proved to be an interesting night.

8th. Spirited Away
16th. Akira

21st. Princess Mononoke
45th. Pokemon
62nd. Battle of the Planets
72nd. Legend of the Overfiend
Most notable on this list is Princess Mononoke, another Miyazaki film but one without the mainstream exposure of the Oscar winning Spirited Away, it has done extremely well to break into the top 21 (beating out many Disney classics along the way). Akira and Spirited Away were also well received; with both breaking into the top 16.
All in all, a very promising set of results for anime fans and one hopes that many new UK fans were hooked in by the lush clips shown last night.
