AmeCon have let us know about their revised plans for their 2006 convention; having moved location to the University of Leicester’s Main Campus (with a capacity of 1,500 people), the confirmed guests already include American voice actors Monica Rial (who visited AmeCon 2004 convention) and Greg Ayres as well as apparently the UK's first ever Cosplay Ball.<ul class="menu2">"AmeCon is a convention dedicated to the celebration of Japanese animation and comics. Following some successful one-day events, several committee members of the Leicester Anime and Manga Club decided to run a small, residential event in 2004. This event, through no fault of their own, became the largest anime convention to be hosted in the British Isles to date. The follow-up event, AmeCon 2006, promises to be even better than its predecessor – and not just because the new site doesn’t have a main road running through it!"</ul><a href="http://www.animeuknews.net/viewpress.php?showarticle=55">Read the full press release</a>.

Two VAs at Amecom?!?....that's pretty cool. But the thing is I was planning on going but since I'm still not good at being a VA and these 2 are already doing something I really want to do...I just don't think I could bear even seeing them in person right now

You make your own luck Grant. If you want to be a VA, meeting the real people is a great way to understand their drive and personalities. Just force yourself to go, you won't regret it.

I've not decided if I want to go yet

Besides I've got people telling me....

-I should not be a VA
-It's impossible to ever work for ADV and Funimation
-I'm just a big joke in wanting to be a VA

It's all about the battle Grant. Just keep practising; looking at the responses on your blog- at least people are bothering to listen to you. Nothing is impossible.

I agree with Paul here, if you keep trying you can suceed! , and any experience that can be obtained is a good thing, you may be able to ask Monica Rial and Greg Ayres some questions if your lucky.

That's what I'm doing, I've ordered a book called "The Art Of Voice Acting" which should at least help me in some way and I just put my name on the waiting list for classes at the Scottish Youth Theatre (where I hope to do acting classes which I badly need). But now that I think about it, does ADV, Funimation, or any other animd dub studio have anyone from the UK working for them?

Even if ADV or Funimation don't have any UK voice Actors, that doesn't mean there is no chance in them hiring one. Don't give up on your dream just becausee it may not have been done before, thats what makes it even more worth doing, just to be able to say 'I live in the UK and I provide Voive Overs for ADV anime titles'. Don't give up on your dream! :)

I wish the people posting comments on my blog thought the same way. I'm already vilified enough there and on the net as it is right now

To go back on topic however, what's Amecon like?

Amecon was great. It was the first con I went to, and was fantastic fun to be there. Monica Rial was a brilliant choice for a guest, she was so lively.

Can't wait till 2006 now...
