Amazon.com Sells Sailor Moon Bootleg as 'Official Boxset'

The Amazon retail website in the United States has been selling a bootleg version of the Pretty Soldier Sailor Moon Sailor Stars television series as the "Sailor Moon Sailor Stars: The Complete Official Boxset." This US$69.95 (about £35) bootleg version's packaging is distinguishable from the actual, official Japanese DVDs by its missing copyright notice, all-region logo, lack of real company credits, missing DVD logo trademark, different cover artwork, and different disc specifications. It also lists the "Pretty Soldier Sailor Moon Production Committee" as its releaser. (Toei Video released this series on individual DVD discs in Japan, but not in a DVD box set.)

This bootleg version does contain misleading Japanese and English package text, as well as a false Japanese yen price ("Price with tax: Y17,300") and an altered technical specifications layout copied from legitimate Japanese DVDs. Neither Geneon (formerly Pioneer Entertainment) nor any other company has officially released the Sailor Moon Sailor Stars series in North America, although Geneon did sell the previous series, Sailor Moon SuperS, in individual DVDs and in a DVD thin pack box set.

While the separate Amazon Marketplace is known for harboring third-party sellers of bootlegged material, this particular bootlegged Sailor Moon Sailor Stars version appears on Amazon's main corporate website. Amazon could not be reached for comment, despite repeated online and telephone requests. ANN will update this article or post a follow-up if Amazon responds.

That is the good old HK sub of StarS that has been sold many, many times on E-bay (I happened to pick up a copy many years back before knowing better ). As stated, the series has never been released as a boxed set in Japan although there was a box released with the final volume of the rerelease a couple of years back (I also have this).

This is pretty shocking. The fact that this tells us that Amazon doesn’t get some of their products directly from the distributor in itself is a surprise. The fact they are selling it is obviously a mistake however a fatal one but the fact that it is STILL up there! That is the real problem.

So just by adding the word "Bootlegged" that some how makes it alright now?
Disgraceful!

Wait, I just read a post at ANN's thread about this. A bloke wrote in Amazons "Update this Item" link suggesting that they change the heading to say "Complete Bootlegged Boxset" thinking that the editors would get the the idea that maybe someone should pull this. They just went ahead and changed the heading to say "Complete Bootlegged Boxset" !

This is just classic.

This is why i love Amazon.

They'll probably never get rid of these, but I'm guessing they'll stop selling once they get rid of the last one.

Of course, if Toei wasn't such assholes on the topic of actualy rleaseing the damn show, this would of probably never of happened.

Toei, you dicks.
