Hi guys, please find an official copy of our press release below with information about our event.

We are delighted to announce that Alcon '08 will run on 5-7 September 2008 at De Montfort University, Leicester City Campus. Alcon is an extremely friendly and innovative anime convention that aims to provide something fresh and exciting to its attendees. At just £25 for three day entry, and just £19.50 per night for accommodation, the convention represents excellent value.

As well as anime screening, there shall be a video gaming room, an Artist Ally, a Cosplayer's Hangout, a Card-Gaming/Roleplaying room, an Anime Bar, a Dealers room and much more. So, whether you want to chill out and watch some anime, nip down to the bar and have a few drinks, party all night, or maybe have a laugh with some friends on a video game, this convention will be for you. You do not have to be a hard-core otaku to enjoy it!

Events exclusive to Alcon will return such as the Iron Artist, Cosplay Blind-Date and 5 Minute Cosplay, along with several entirely new ideas such as The Battle of the DJs, a Video Gaming Party, and Alcon Assassins. Of course the more traditional fare such as the Cosplay Masquerade, Pub Quiz and so on will also take place.

Favourites such as Akemi Solloway and David Bircham shall return, with more guests to be confirmed. Finally! Keep an eye out for the Pirates v Ninjas v Vampires battle that shall ensue at the convention! Which side wins? YOU shall decide!

If any of this interests you then why not check out the Alcon site now on http://www.alcon.org.uk/index.php Prices will increase after April 31st, and we can not guarantee places once we exceed 350 signups, so make sure to book and pay early to avoid disappointment. You can register at http://www.alcon.org.uk/registration.php

We hope to see you there!

Thanks! If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask them in this thread.

wow! didnt see this! because Im fairly new to anime, i dont know too much about conventions, I mean what really happens there - do you just basically hang out with others who love anime?! Also what are the advantages of cosplaying? - this kind of goes for conventions in general but as my brother is on the campus then it would be easy for me to get there!

To put it shortly, give me a general outline of what you do at a convention and what its like!

sorry for being a bit of a newbie! but i have to find this info somewhere!

ALCon is a really relaxed event. If you get involved with any part of the weekend, maybe in the video gaming tournaments, cosplay events, or just at the bar, you'll make some new friends. A lot of the day, and definatly in the evening, there is a definate party atmosphere.

If you want more information, either contact FreeSaiyan or you can talk to me.

Thanks for the links looked them up last night and I should be going as it sounds like a hell load of fun!! thanks for the help!

Ooo, I registered - this will be a first time for me as well, being at a convention! I'm particularly interested in the artist's alley, I hope to get to see other people's work, do some drawings myself and give any advice and tips to anyone who wants it. And I will no doubt gravitate to the DDR area... I've been practicing :p

Signups are going pretty fast now folks! We now have over 200 members (of 350 capacity), so if you want to come make sure to register your interest as soon as possible to avoid missing out! Plenty of news and happenings with regards to Alcon 2008, read on!

Well if I cosplay I'll be doing some anime/manga shopping go to the screening rooms, reading some manga, doing activities such as the clan assasination (with clothes pegs!), and wandering into the artists section as I would like some tips on drawing and I like seeing other peoples artwork - basically doing as much as I can!

i'm not sure whether i should goto this cause most likley i'll be the only one out of my 'posse' (yes weird word) going and i am not the most bravest person going round anywhere on my own ^^;
i'm going to AmeCon..but i would like to go to another convention the upside to this is that it is in Leicester ^_^

Looks like its gonna be a blast. Hopefully I'll be able to make this (assuming I don't have exams -__-)

Hi guys, sorry for not posting in here sooner, it's been a very busy few months for us as we've been sorting out more prep work for the convention!

The good news is that after removing a number of unpaid members, there are spare places to register for Alcon again! However, we expect them all 400 to have been taken up by the end of June at the latest, so if you are interested in coming, make sure to register asap! You won't need to pay until June 30th! Three day registration is still only £25, so excellent value!

Got any questions about Alcon? You can reach me on msn via mtowers1982@yahoo.co.uk or via aim on FreeSaiyan

Updates on Alcon 2008!

- Capacity of Alcon increased to 400. Following an extremely strong rate of signups, we have taken the decision to expand our capacity from 350 members to 400 members.
- We have acquired more accommodation so that ALL members will have somewhere to stay. At just £21 a night, it remains a bargain!
- The Quay will be our exclusive bar hire for Alcon 2008. It is about double the size of our previous bar at '07, the Bishops Blaise, and ideally suited to a convention of our size (Click on the images to view them full-sized).

- Pheonix Games will be running the Alcon trading card games for Alcon 2008. If you check out their website, you will notice that they are already heavily involved in events, and we are delighted to have them aboard! They will be running a number of competitions and events over the weekend.
- If you check out the Alcon forums on Animeleague located here you can read up on the latest updates (Information on the conbook, gophers, charity and more are now up!) There are many panels in the works that will be announced over the next month that will also be announced there, so stay tuned!
