While we are still busy celebrating that Hayao Miyazaki's <em>The Wind Wises</em> earned a nomination in the Animated Feature category of this year's Academy Awards, we mustn't forget that there are other award ceremonies as well. Yesterday, at the 41st Annie Awards, Katsuhiro Otomo, the creator of the original <em>Akira</em> manga and director of its famous anime movie adaptation, appeared in person to accept the "Winsor McCay Award for Lifetime Achievement".
Hayao Miyazaki's <em>The Wind Rises</em> and Hiroyuki Okiura's <em>A Letter to Momo</em> were both nominated for the night's top award, but lost out to Disney's <em>Frozen.</em> <em>The Wind Rises</em> however, picked up an award for Writing in an Animated Feature Production. Miyazaki himself did not attend the event, nor did he send a represenative to receive the award.
