Akira Blu-ray Region Free

I don't know the answer to your question, but I just wanted to say that region locking sucks balls, and always has. Are there any all-region players yet? I'd like a Blu-Ray player but don't want to be locked out of either US or UK discs.

There are no region free Blu-ray players at the moment. The market for BR discs is fairly niche at the moment so there really is no impetus added to the fact the great majority of discs are all region at the moment anyway.

As for the difference between Honneamise and Bandai Entertainment, Honneamise is a company owned directly by the Japanese branch of Bandai Visual, Namco Bandai or Bandai Entertainment (can't remember which but it is one of those three) and aims for worldwide release of high-quality titles. Bandai Entertainment, on the other hand, is the US subsidiary of Namco Bandai and deal with titles being released in the US. Bandai Entertainment act as the distributor (getting the stock to the shelves) for Honneamise in the US, much like BEEZ handle the UK distribution while Honneamise produce the actual product.

After some Googling I found this. Tempting.
Something like that is fairly grey market since modifying equipment to circumvent protection is technically illegal (a test case was won by Sony with regards to chipped Playstation consoles some time back)... Really depends on whether the player has the capability built in and is activated in some fashion (such as entering a code from your remote) or physical modification was performed (chipping) to achieve the end result. Ultimately any of that really depends on whether the company producing the DVD player cares enough to kick up a fuss about it and take it to court.
