Air Gear

Anyone else reading this manga? I am a huge fan of the anime series and am hoping and praying that a second series is released this year.

Anyway without a 2nd series on the books I decided to start reading the manag series instead. I am impressed, the story is different from the anime so it has some very new and interesting approaches to the characters and their back stories. Like Ikki the main character being the enforcer of the Eastside Gunz (his areas gang) but in the anime he has no affiliation with them he just takes there name when he starts skating. Also in the series he has no idea that his housemates are the Sleeping Forest Airtrek team (most feared in Japan) yet in the manga they tell him at the very start.

At the moment I have only read vol. 1 but have vol. 2 to read tomorrow and vol. 3 is happily on preorder for next month.

I am loving the mixture of a skating based sport with the idea of the world as your skate park, especially since the Treks have mini engines in them allowing you to scale walls and perform insane stunts... oh and the gang violence is also a nice side story.

Synopsis of Air Gear: The Air Trek is a kind of inline skate, but it is customizable and even has an engine. This is a story about a boy, Baby Face Itsuki. When he is invited into the world of Air Gear by his childhood friend, Ringo, his legend to become the King of Air began.

this manga just owns!
its really good and i am loving every bit of it...especially the comedic parts and the great art.
i have been reading these online (scanslations) for a while and it is really good. (but since my computer is....STILL! mesed up) i will have to wait before i get back on track.
i have volumes 1 & 2. and it is still great to read again.
i just hope DEL RAY/Tanoshimi do not make anymore mistakes or edits on this series.

I wasn't to shore about Air Gear when I first had a quick read through at the LBS, but after buying it I'm happy to say it's a very good read, and has me hooked. I bought vol.2 the same day as reading vol.1 and have 3 on order (due out 1 Feb - Tanoshimi)

It's got everything I like in a Manga; Fighting, fledgling romance, comedy, an entertaining story and great artwork that helps tell the tail.

Just read vol. 2 and I love it even more now, The story differs in such a special way that the main concept is the same but the characters have been expanded even more. In the anime Simca The Swallow is just a shadowy skater no real back ground is given, but in the manga her character is fleshed out, also we better told about how Ikki became so tuff. Also his future team mates have finally decided to start skating.

I can't wait for vol. 3, especially as vol. 3 is going to be the parts war so we get to see some real power in the form of Buccha.

I got vol 3 and it's brilliant. I'm really loving this series. Due to the fandom, I initially thought it was just pretty fluff and fan service (like deathnote yaoi fanart put me off that series too, until I realised it was actually good XD), but the action sequences are very well drawn, and the story is exciting, and urban.

I was thinking about buying it today, but then put it back... then picked it up again, I'll think about it some more, though the art is good, the manga is edited so I may leave it.

I heard about the series when I first saw an episode of it. It's an awsome series indeed. I've only read vol.1 and I'm a HUGE fan of Air Gear. It's so cool.^__^ *wishes air trecks did exist* >_> Ikki rules.

Air Treks would rock, but the health and safety people would never let us get our hands on something like that boohoohoo.

Well worth buying volume 2 of the manga, I love how the story differs but keeps the same theme as the anime

By edited do you mean the dialogue saying 'wtf' instead of 'what the ****', or is there something else in there? It looks a little weird, but it didn't nother me personally. Good manga, gotta get volume 2 at some point! :D

(the UK cover for volume 2 is unedited while the US one covers a panty shot if I remember it right - UK wins for once!)

We can thank Tanoshimi and UK sensibility for leaving in panty shots! ^o^ The only edits I reckon that have taken place are things like nipples maybe? I haven't read the original Japanese versions so I'm reading the ENglish ones with fresh eyes, and I haven't spotted anything jarring so they can't have been that bad.

McIcy, I got vol3 last week at Forbidden Planet in London

I KNEW i should have bought the tonoshimi ones.....GRRRRRR
i even e-mailed the company regarding the front covers, and i got no reply (and the forwarded me to some next dude, and i couldn't be arsed to type the mail again)
looks like i might as well get them, as i hate having edited stuff, and also it would be good to support the UK manga industry..still i am angry...GRRRR

sorry for the double post but for the peeps here who own the tonoshimi ones, are they uncut also, and do they have any colour pages in them?
because my DEL RAY vol 1 has a glossy first colour page.

No colour pages. Tanoshimi have yet to venture into that kind of thing with any of their stuff.

I think apart from that they're exactly the same as the Del Rat versions. (apart from the aforementioned panty restoration ^_^)

Those who have got vol 3 all ready, is it the Del Ray or Tanoshimi version? Tanoshimi's offical release date is tomorrow (1/2/07), set a week latter than Del Ray IIRC.

Re-read vol 1 & 2 the other night. It's one of those where you go, I'll just read the next page and the next etc... I read through a vol' quite quickly, so there's always something new to spot second/third time round :D

For those that have seen the Anime series, is it worth getting?

Air treks will some day be invented. hopefully, most probably erm maybe not :(

I'd love a set of them.

Ah man i have another month until vol. 4, argh the best story is about to start as we get to see one of my fave characters Agito/Akito

Think of all the extra building work that would have to be done, because if everyone was air-trekking, then buildings would be ripped to shite!
I love the manga, it's quite original, minus the whole underdog ideals thing! It's great!
