Air Gear

Been watching this for a few weeks now and love it, not really sure why, but... oh hang on better give you an idea of what Air Gear is:

Synopsis The Air Trek is a kind of inline skate, but it is customizable and even has an engine (minature but with the power of a 4x4). This is a story about a boy, Baby Face Itsuki. When he is invited into the world of Air Gear by his childhood friend, Ringo, his legend to become the King of Air began.

So imagine street gangs all over Tokyo competing to be the best at this street sport and along rolls Ikki with his best mates. I really got into this fast theres something about an anime that lets you see a character grow through competition that works for me.

Also I love the visual imagery, certain characters when skating take on new forms (only seen by the viewer not by each other) that is used to emphasise there special characteristics. Ikki is seen as a crow soaring above opponents, the fat (and I mean huge) Butcha is seen as a tank, Agito (extremely violent/kind split personality) the Great White Shark and Kazuma (the fastest of the team) is seen as a fighter jet.

The anime focuses on Ikki's team heading to be the top of Air Trek world, fighting other gangs on the '8 roads' (each road is a different path/style to the top) for example one road is via fighting and destroying your oponent, one is through speed, and Ikki's (in my opinion) is through flight/stunts. At the top waiting for Ikki's team is the best of the best, the 'Sleeping Forest' but just who are they and how powerful can they really be?

Watch it if you haven't already, like I said I was hooked from episode one and now as episode seventeen looms around the corner I seriously can't wait to see it and see what happens next. :p

i absolutely like the manga of Air Gear, and love every bit of it!

(the last post at the bottom)
i am hoping to get the rest, but they are extreamely expensive, and i have put more items for sale on the marketplace to get more money! there are a few bargains there so check em out.
err...slightly of track i guess.
I really liked the OP intro song for Air Gear...really catchy.
good stuff :D

Really like Air Gear myself. Its not brilliant, but its fun. I guess the word is that it is 'honest' about what it delivers.

I am so going to pick up the Tanoshima manga when its out here.

omg
i just thought i'd share this with everyone.
i just opened my Air Gear vol1 manga (Del Ray version)
and from the very first page, it is in colour! its so good. it includes the exact same first few glossy colour pages from the japanese version. (then shows them again in b&w but translated)
Del Ray sure is doing great. lets hope other manga companies can do the same. (Del Ray's work on Negima! was superb, although no colour pages -_-)
jut thought this would interest some peeps/fans here.
now, back to reading it heh :)

Woohoo, definately gonna have to get the manga too, hugely into this series I really do look forward to each weeks episodes to see how the characters are growing

hmm, after reading the manga volume 1 just now i must say it is absolutely great (even though im far ahead on the scanslated versions) but there were some small issues that i found annoying. for example. there would be some spelling mistakes (mostly, the last letter of the word would be missing)
and there was one page were, even though there was no talking, there were small speech bubbles for the sfx comming from Ikki's headphone. (on the scanslated version, it had the music symbols. but in this version it was pure empty, white.
i just hope del ray get their act together and make sure stupid annoying mistakes like this do not occur again. and i thought Del Ray was the best publisher in terms of quality.

This sums up my feelings completely. I really have warmed to it and I honestly wasn't sure if I could after the opening episode. It hasn't changed my life or anything but I must admit I do really enjoy watching each episode and I've really become quite fond of how certain characters interact with one another.

Oh man at the moment I am on that feel good bit about being hooked on a series. Can't wait for each episode as I really wanna know what happens next and how much Ikki has grown.

Come on next episode I am a nervous wreck as I reeeeeeeeally wanna know how the latest fight ends and how Ikki and Agito are gonna kick the current Fang champs ass

bah now i am pissed, here is why.

Del Rey Tweaks Air Gear (08:27 AM EDT): A bit of recent controversy surrounding Del Rey's release of Air Gear has reached a conclusion. Posting to the forum, Del Rey's Dallas Middaugh talked about the toned down portions of the script that went through with the first volume and that they will be corrected for the second printing going forward. No trade-in program will be available however.

so if you have not bought vol 1 yet and was planning, you know well to wait.
looks like i will have to buy it again, as Air gear is one of my Top Fave's at the mo, and don't want any tonned down version.

Cheers for posting this Ninja Boy as this is currently on my manga to buy list, I'll hold off now until it is re-printed.

Still watching the series and its just getting better and better, I currently get the shakes on the air days as I really can't wait to what happens in each episode

You might want to wait for the Tanoshimi versions then, out next month.

Which may be the V2s or not. In any case by October, Air Gear will be on simultaneous release in UK & US. You will be able to verify edits at first hand in Borders and the like.
