Been watching this for a few weeks now and love it, not really sure why, but... oh hang on better give you an idea of what Air Gear is:
Synopsis The Air Trek is a kind of inline skate, but it is customizable and even has an engine (minature but with the power of a 4x4). This is a story about a boy, Baby Face Itsuki. When he is invited into the world of Air Gear by his childhood friend, Ringo, his legend to become the King of Air began.
So imagine street gangs all over Tokyo competing to be the best at this street sport and along rolls Ikki with his best mates. I really got into this fast theres something about an anime that lets you see a character grow through competition that works for me.
Also I love the visual imagery, certain characters when skating take on new forms (only seen by the viewer not by each other) that is used to emphasise there special characteristics. Ikki is seen as a crow soaring above opponents, the fat (and I mean huge) Butcha is seen as a tank, Agito (extremely violent/kind split personality) the Great White Shark and Kazuma (the fastest of the team) is seen as a fighter jet.
The anime focuses on Ikki's team heading to be the top of Air Trek world, fighting other gangs on the '8 roads' (each road is a different path/style to the top) for example one road is via fighting and destroying your oponent, one is through speed, and Ikki's (in my opinion) is through flight/stunts. At the top waiting for Ikki's team is the best of the best, the 'Sleeping Forest' but just who are they and how powerful can they really be?
Watch it if you haven't already, like I said I was hooked from episode one and now as episode seventeen looms around the corner I seriously can't wait to see it and see what happens next.
