Ah! My Goddess: S2 - What's going on with the UK release?

I'm currently rewatching S1. I'm liking it a lot. Since I'm getting a lot of enjoyment out of rewatching S1, I'd like to move straight on to S2 and, this time around, I want to go beyond the 6th episode. However, I no longer wish to watch on my 19" monitor - it's more relaxing to chill on my bed than it is to sit hunched over my monitor.

Right now, the cheapest price for the Funimation set is $40 (without shipping). Even if £1 was still worth $2 it'd work out at £20, taking it over the customs limit, and with how weak the pound is right now it works out at £25. And since it's also priced at £26.99 on PlayUSA, there's currently no way of importing the set and avoiding getting hit by customs.

This wouldn't be so much of an issue if ADV hadn't imploded when they'd started releasing the series in the UK, but they did implode. Going on Find-DVD, only the first volume had some copies released befoe ADV died. It'd be pointless buying that volume if ADV aren't going to start releasing more volumes.

This leads me to my question: What's the status of the UK license? Do ADV still hold it or have they sold it? Why hasn't there been any attempt made by M-we-turned-down-the-V-chance-to-license-Gankutsuou-M to pick up the second season when they own the license for S1?

Since the US rights are owned by Funimation, there's a chance that Revelation may release S2 here. But even if that does happen you're in for a wait, as they've still not finished series they started to release in 2007.

If you really want the DVDs I say bite the bullet and try PlayUSA. Last year I ordered a Maison Ikkoku box set that was over the limit but which evaded customs. And playing Russian Roulette with HMCE is fun.

More chance of Manga Ent nabbing it at this point.

Having seen Revelation's press release for Tsubasa Volume 6 describing it as a stunning conclusion to the series, with no reference at all to Season 2, and considering that Tsubasa is one of their higher sellers, I get the feeling that they want to clear out what remains of their anime titles and then get the hell out of Dodge.

My understanding is that Lace/ADV UK are negotiating to continue releasing (some) of what they were releasing before things went tits-up. Revelation is a relatively unlikely direction for any of those titles appearing (Navarre are not particularly enamoured of the UK market for anime it seems) and Manga appear to have a reasonable relationship with FUNimation/Navarre so are the second most likely distributor. All of that is, of course, rumour and speculation and completely unconfirmed but is the sum total of my knowledge on the subject.

I asked FUNi that same question back in December, and the reply I got was
There are plans for a UK release, but because of on going negotiations, I can not give you a definate date as yet. Keep in touch of our news letter for any new developments.

To be honest, I'd rather take the risk of getting hit with customs at £26.99 then pay £40 for a four disc cheap set. As far as I know, the case is poor and, to save money, Funimation lowered the disc count to four... It's not the sort of box set that's worth £40 - it's worth closer to £20.

Oh well, I'll just wait to see if A) the pound stops being such a pussy or B) MVM release another lovely thinpack box set. At this point in time both seem highly unlikely, though...
