Afro Samurai DVD now available.

It's an "18" would be a bit harsh even in it's edited form but maybe it is the cut version. Does anyone know who distributes this DVD?

Thats been there for weeks. And seeing as its FUNimation in America it would make sense it was Revilation films. But it doesn't seam to be...

Maybe Revalation have distributed it or Bravo have been given the DVD distribution rights as well as the TV rights.

Afro Samurai isn't an anime, it's an African-American cartoon. >_>

Go tell that to Studio GONZO and FUNimation and the man who made the original Dojinshi manga.
It is anime, its just a little different from the normal. Although its not the first anime to dubbed straight into english. Vampire Hunter D anybody?

It wasn't produced in Japan? Which animation company made it then?

You have a strange way of making fun of somthing

UK distribution is by Gonzo itself (listed on the back as released by GDH KK). GDH is the holding company of Gonzo for those who do not know. This is the first time I have seen them distribute/release a title themselves outside of Japan with the only anime they directly released there that I have seen was Speed Grapher.

The DVD itself has some interesting trailers on it, including Gankutsuou (Count of Monte Cristo), Witchblade, Burst Angel, Samurai 7 and Gantz. Out of those, of course, Gankutsuou and Witchblade have yet to surface in the UK.

It seems a little odd that they would decide to handle distribution of the DVD themselves and makes me wonder what that might mean for the future.

That's quite incredible to be honest. That is also extremely odd, but of course really interesting; thanks for the info Gawyn. Although I don't honestly think it means anything more than Afro Samurai in this case, as Afro Samurai was a special case anyway being shown on Gonzo. I just don't see how this could come to be anything more than this single release, and why would Gonzo choose the UK anyway.

Small market anyway meaning they only have to put a limated amount anyway if its just an experiment?

Or maybe a key market?

I admit quite unusual for a Japanese company to directly distribute their product in a foreign market. Hey look in the brightside maybe Bravo have struck a deal with Gonzo?

Ahh, the plot thickens.....

I have went on digiguide to check future listings for adult swim and in the beginning of August is adult swim programme unannounced this ocuppies Afro Samurai's old slot and last for a half hour the shows around are detailed in info.

So half hour slot for adult swim is vacant could this mean Bravo has more anime?
