ADV Takes Over Geneon

Death Scythe
Well, not really, but I thought that might get your attention.
ADV are, according to ICv2, taking over 'sales, marketing and distribution' aspects for Geneon. This will start October 1st.
Geneon will continue to license and do what it did before for everything however.

This is going to have significant impact on a lot of things I should think. I can't think about all of them right now but at least I don't think this will affect the UK market too much. To be honest I'm not sure how much, I doubt this will mean MVM not having anything to release over here and I should hope that that isn't the case considering ADVs marketing strategy for the UK.
I should think we might see a lot of Geneon's titles come out in thinpak form (with all the extra's stripped out maybe :/ ), and/or new releases have an artbox with volume two instead of volume. Who knows. I don't know. Let's just hope this turns out to be a good thing as I'm sure it will?
Of course I'm assuming that the 'sales' part of this means the way things are put together as a release. It may just mean you can buy Geneon's titles through ADV or something. [/url]

So, if this does effect the Ablian side of things, will effectively leave MVM with Gonzo shows.

That's got to be _some_ poison challace they'll get.

Well I can't say I’m unhappy. I've never really liked Geneon very much. Half of they're stuff is the sort of thing that if I saw going at a decent price on UK DVD I would check out, but going to the bother of importing them. This will be interesting. Plus if Geneon titles do become available from ADV. Maybe MVM will be forced into sublicensing from more from media blasters and CPM and so on. Maybe we could see more of they're catalogues in the coming year/s.

It means the later. The job of Geneon's sales department is to sell the finished product to retailers and wholesalers, and to manage the relationships Geneon has with these companies. This includes of course, taking orders from retailers. The only parts of the release any of these departments control is the wholesale price and where you can find it - both areas where Geneon is weaker than the other major R1 companies. ADV will only get their hands on Geneon's releases when they're ready to be sent to retailers.

This certainly won't affect MVM in the slightest. The article explicitly states that 'licensing', which would include sub licensing to other territories, is not affected by this. Geneon will retain full control of who they sell R2 and R4 rights.

Let's put this another way, the title of the article is 'ADV to Sell Geneon Products'. That's what this deal entails and nothing more.

I'm not too sure on this one. I love some of Geneons products but some of ADV's policies confuse and anger me. I doubt this is a match made in heaven, but it'll be interesting to see how it pans out.
