Hugh David from ADV Films UK recently ran an online Q&A session at the AmeCon community forums. If you are interested in reading about what ADV UK are up to at the moment, Hugh offers a good insight into his employers; the reasoning and business logic behind certain licensing decisions and hints at several possible developments in the future (Anime Network coming to UK TV? Ergo Proxy already licensed by unnamed UK company).

Was your off-the-cuff mention of getting the Anime Network over here a portent of things to come? cool.gif

If (big if I know) you did launch the Anime Network here would you do it as a pay-per-view, a slot on another channel or a straightup channel in its own right?

We'll do it however we need to to get it on air

why do you get our hopes up so ADV :(

interesting interview. Good to see that they have the license for Air Gear, so i may get it when its released. The Anime network would be good to see up and running in the UK..if they get it up and running that is

Are there any plans for a UK release of Princess Tutu?

There were - quite a few fans in the US office, a couple here too. Currently it's no longer on the schedule - we'd like to say that shows with a more shoujo bent finally sell here, but FUNI's poor sales of Negima show otherwise. so we're sticking to what we know sells here. Sorry.
1. Negima! is not shôjo.
2. Negima! is crap. Or, in more subjective terms, it was critically panned. That's way it's not selling.
3. Princess Tutu is excellent. One only needs to see the compliments it's given on Anime News Network to notice that. Haibane-Renmei is also excellent, and did well enough for MVM to release a box set of it.

I've long dreamt of the BBC or Channel 4 producing and screening a UK dub of Haibane-Renmei or lain. If I had known, I would have asked if such a thing could be possible…

Okay negima is not that bad well the anime was never as good as the manga. I heard though Negima is very popular in japan and manga is doing well here. There dub is pretty good too.

Back on the subject Anime Network in the UK wont happen period but it will be great aslong as it has loads of animes then I am ok with it. I think that is a chance but its very small. :(

To be honest I think they'd have to be bloomin stupid 'not' to have the licence, but i'm a bit pissed that they're releasing it as a download only option first, before releasing it on disk, sorry but I aint paying for something that I can't hold in my hand.

The fact that it is being promoted as such by Revelation/FUNimation, despite the fact that it is a shounen harem title, belies that. I can easily see why since, going by the manga, it is only a hair's breadth from being shouta...

Not at all. I guess it's closer to being loli but that's really stretching it.

Still it's hardly a classy series by any means, though dare I say it better than Love Hina because it actually resembles something like having a storyline beyond love triangles at points. I'm not surprised it's not selling well though.
