Adult Swim returning to the UK

Or FX could not go the way of Rapture, CNX, AnimeCentral or any other channel that has picked up an anime that is more offensive than your average 4kids outing.

Tell me guy in the top brass of a broadcasting company who what decides what gets on his channel doesn't look at anime and see the white death hovering over it.

Hopefully, they will look at the shows that do well, and pick up FMA and Bleach. They already have Family Guy, American Dad, Robot Chicken, Titan Maximum and Venture Bros.

I just can't see it happening. Why would Fox want to even chance infecting FX with whatever apparent stench of failure those two shows have had?
Both channels those shows have aired in have gone down in flames. If I was Rupert Murdoch or whoever, I'd see that and practically label all of Japan as a dead zone. Even if we know better on the subject.

Don't get your hopes up, as adult swim as a brand in a UK, only includes the shows that they make themselves. The anime they show is acquired programming so it's no their place to sell the rights- (a deal would have to be made with manga for example who own the UK rights for bleach). I doubt Fx would be interested in showing any anime, sadly.

However in an un-anime related note... Venture brothers is awesome.

I agree about Venture Brothers, but I think Sealab 2021 is better.

Oh, awesome! It's been hard to keep up with my [as] love so having it on on a decent channel for once is good.

Are they using their HD channel?

It's airing on their HD channel, not sure if that means it's in HD or not.

The last [adult swim] block we had in the UK at least had Afro Samurai so they must be able to get something on there if it gets popular

Yes, but look what happened to our last [as] block... And I still can't see why we can't just get a timeshift channel, but whatevs.

Also, oddly enough, they don't simulcast for their HD channel but they also don't only play HD materials, which you thought they would. They show Family Guy/American Dad an awful lot in SD 4:3.

Offcom. Same guys who told Jetix to turn Naruto into an utter mess.

Timeshift channel? Don't you mean a timeshare channel, like if Cartoon Network was on 6am - 9pm, and then [adult swim] being on 9pm - 6am, but on a different channel number to get round Ofcom

Did ofcom do it?

Insomuch that they had guidelines that basicly said that Jetix would be murderkilled by the fines if Naruto went out as is, yes.

Yeah, sorry, wrong terminology. But yeah, I mean exactly that.
But, at the moment, [adult swim] has a lot more chance of survival due to FX UK owning the rights to Family Guy and American Dad.

Actually it doesn't own the sole rights to those shows, BBC Three have them as well, but given the FX user base, showing anime wouldn't give them much benefit, i remember either jerome or andrew saying that the anime companies would have to pay the uk networks to broadcast the shows instead of the otherway around, and that's sadly the state of the industry in the uk, we need more fans...

Although i'm quite happy with Robot Chicken being on tv again, love that show.

show.
So, did Manga/Viz pay Anime Central to show Bleach/Death Note ect.?

AC never showed death note ;)
Ah, my bad

Anyways, adult swim posted on their Facebook...
Thanks guys - without going all Media Guardian on yo' ass, this is a different scenario to Bravo where it was an adult swim 'block' - instead, FX are running a comedy hour [block] '"in association with adult swim" - which is a different beast. This is not to say that you'll never see Harvey or Sealab on telly again, but for the moment we have a tellylife ... See moreagain - which should help raise the profile of the other shows as more people find out about them/us. Don't worry - we'll still be showing the vintage (as opposed to 'cancelled'. Ahem) shows on adultswim.co.uk and working with/haranguing our DVD label to get them out there too. And btw - we've got a month of Sealab ep coming up in June. Is that lotion soothing the pain some?

So, the timeshare idea would be much better anime wise, but this is a good start to get the [adult swim] originals some decent exposure being jammed in between episodes of Family Guy
