a good Story for a manga/comic

sanji no 1

Vampire Ninja
Ive just finished collage for this term. Hooray! but when i go back to collage, The next project me and my class have to do is make our own comic/manga story.

So i have a 2 ideas already, and i would just like to see which one you people like or think is good. Now i realise im no Akira Toriyama or Stan Lee, but please go easy on me!

Note: i have not thought of titles for these ideas

Idea 1:
There are these 2 teenage gangs in England called P.Y.G and G.A.S (there based on real gangs) and these 2 gangs HATE each other! They always have Gang wars and cause trouble. But a boy from P.Y.G and a girl from G.A.S fall in love. When both gangs find out about this, This angers them. So the 2 lovers must find away to survive the anger from both gangs.

Insperation for this:
Romeo and Juliet and Basilisk
I always found the whole "2 familys hate each other and some from both familys fall in love" story intersting in Romeo and Juliet. Also Basilisk had the same kind of story but with Ninjas and Samurai. So i thought "Hey, woudent it be cool for 2 popular gangs in England had the same situation?" so i thought this would perhaps be good as a comic/manga story

Idea 2:
There's a huge rivalry going on between Liverpool F.C. fans and Manchester United F.C. fans. The rivalry has gone on for 10 years and they hate each other VERY much. However, there is a accident at a powerplant which releases a strange radiation that affects half of England and when someone is affected by the radition, they get odd powers. And it just so happens that both Liverpool fans and MU fans have been infected by the radiation and get powers. So now there rivalry has gotten MUCH more violent

Insperation for this:
Most action packed anime
My favourite genre of anime is Action/Fighting and this idea will be action packed if its the story i choose for collage.

So there you go. a couple of my ideas for my next project in collage. You might think they sound kinda crap but, Who cares right? So please give your honest oppinions on them. If they do sound crap please dont insult me down lol

Neither is particularly original (as you freely admit) but there have been far too many Romeo & Juliet ripoffs already. Go with the superpowered football hooligans, that has the potential to be hilarious.

Alrighty, the challenge has been issued, so I'm going to take the torch...

I'm going to say, 1st off, that I'm prefering the 1st idea to the 2nd, but it's not as simple as that.
Everyone knows about Romeo and Juliet, and this will be an adaptation of that story to fit a more modern atmosphere. The problem is you could also get that from Sonia Leong's upbeat version of the actual tale, plus let's not forget the Hollywood Live Action movie that was made years ago. It is a seriously retold story, but it still might be useful to have it as a backbone to your story with the gangs. Go along with this idea, and you'll have to face facts that it may not attract people who want a completely original story, however tell it right and that may be just a fact. (Whether your lecturer is looking for unique storytelling or not, I cant say.)

The 2nd idea complexes me... This is an event that may happen twice in a sporting year; They gain superpowers in the method by Bruce Banner; with the effects ranging like the Fantastic 4; and they use their powers for hoolaganism.
Well, for starters, this description seems very vague as a storyline. It needs a focus on a character/s as a protagonist to make the story become purposeful.
For example - During recent football matches (especially against Liverpool fans) "Jamie" has had a rough time with certain supporters repeatively abusing him for supporting MUFC. The character has a desire to get back at them someday. Random powerplant event occurs and he's one of the 1st to acknowledge his powers. Eventually, he's banding up other affected MUFC fans to attack/defend against other mutated fans, and thus the major violence begins.

I will say it now - The above is ONLY an example. That storyline came from mixing just 3 things, a background description of a story, a genre and character focus. Hell, you may want the person pretend that he's a fighter for Mersyside Justice and such, but there are many directions you can go with this.

Final bit of advice: I dont know the length of the comics (between 10/20 pages or a whole chapter etc.), but you got to remember to make your story fit. If it's short, then you dont have much chance to explain 8000+ lines of background info and script or too many 1-page/double-page images. In contrast, dont make a story too short if you need to fill a huge pile of paper, or go really small on text and drawings when you can make it really dramatic with the odd overexaggerated scene.
Plan your pages well (Start-middle-end or bullet point all events necessary) and decide what's more inportant in those areas (action, explanation, leading on to something etc).

I hope that gives you something to digest and it becomes useful afterwards. I'm always happy to help in these endevours (even though I'm not experienced in that field as a writer).
