To be honest, I think they've been imposing stricter limits on all the UK distributors for a while, now.
MVM couldn't release BDs of Garden of Sinners. And both Manga and AL were given minimum price points for Sword Art Online, as I recall. They both hit them in different ways but it was a...
I'm with you on this...
...apart maybe, for the bit about not getting around to watching stuff. I only buy stuff I genuinely intend to watch at some point.
But I just want locally-held not-beholden-on-the-network-gods copies of stuff I do intend to watch. Or, more accurately, rewatch. if I'm...
Eyesight can vary from person to person.
Mine isn't great. (See the userpic. Note the glasses)
In fact, some 20+ years ago, it was the fact that I was struggling to read certain colours on certain backgrounds owing to insufficient contrast that had me get my eyes tested in the first place. Even...
Ditto.
For me, it's killed any interest in buying the show any time soon, too. Being CE-only has edged the series overall price to outside of what I personally find good value.
Manga's season 1 was just (and only just) inside of it. S2 is outside, the extra "value" coming from the physical...
The problem with the subtitles issue, too, is that it's very subjective.
Some people seriously hate yellow subtitles, find them ugly or whatever and would genuinely prefer to see a version with white subs.
I'm the opposite. Although for me it's less a preference or down to aesthetics, more...
I guess I'm the only person who actually sees this as a positive. I absolutely hate it when the outermost packaging doesn't at least have some at-a-glance information on there.
And this is where the BBFC, even in a perfect world, becomes harmful to niche markets that involve long-running series.
The licensing and production fees for a UK release are going to be pretty similar to an American release. But not only are we a much smaller market, with a corresponding...
You make it sound like Toei would have let CR stream it without Manga's intervention. And I get the feeling that that's not the case.
Toei's European licensing arm clearly seems to class streaming as an afterthought, making CR's Tri license for NA useless over here without Toei-Europe's say-so...
Both the font and border look a little thin for my taste. At least, for white text anyway. With yellow it'd probably be fine but for white I like a thicker font and border.
Although "like" isn't quite right. "Can read easily" is closer to the truth.
Yellow subs may well be uglier but I never...
Well, I still have the old import DVDs so saw no reason to go for AL's DVD release. I did say I'd be interested if they got it out on Blu-ray...
As such, I'm definitely interested. Although for me t's definitely going to be down to a combination of price and whether a standard edition is...
Yeah. As a Blu-ray user, combo-packs are a nice option for specific scenarios but, as a general rule, I'd rather not be lumbered with an additional disc I don't need.
And as more and more people are getting Blu-ray players, simply as they're cheap enough to be a direct replacement for failed...
For all that I'm defiantly not interested in Collector Editions, I'm not sure I can really fault Anime Limited (or, in fact, anybody involved with the show) for this.
A company who specialises in standard editions has their license expire and suddenly anybody who focuses on collector editions...
Without the movies, it does see like a bit of a weird license pickup. Then again, if Manga's license expired and they were either unwilling or unable to renew it, it's nice that a title doesn't completely go OOP in the UK.
The Official Log Book does look intriguing. I'm not really one for...
I'm with you on that.
Now I do think that Anime Limited are lucky to have people like Andrew and Jeremy who are perhaps the few people I know of who can remain genuine-sounding whilst avoiding being blunt. But I tend to find that, on the whole, when people try to be polite/professional they...
Exactly. As you say, it's relative to one's own preferences.
It just feels like people seem to give Anime limited and MVM a heck of a lot more leeway than Manga/Animatsu get simply because of pros and cons that lie more in line with people's preferences.
No standard-edition release any time...
I think the problem here is that what classes as a fault, what classes as a quality issue and what classes as acceptable (if not preferable) are very subjective opinions.
The intro | op | pt1 | pt2 | ed | next split for chapter markers for some people is "the right way" and to not do it that...
I've noticed this a lot, too. Especially when people will sometimes exclusively focus on how he puts something across rather than what he's actually saying.
Some people are just a bit abrasive. (I should know, quite often I'm one of them.)
But "abrasive" does not automatically mean "wrong". Yes...
I'm genuinely unsure as to whether I've even heard of the title prior to hearing of this news.
I suspect it might be a victim of not being a hugely heard-of title combined with not having been on Crunchyroll (or maybe Netflix, either). Especially as, as far as I can tell, it originally aired...
I think, going forward, this is going to increasingly be an issue for UK home releases. Especially for anime.
As streaming eats more and more into the "watch once" and "casual rewatch" crowds, people like myself who want a physical barebones release are going to become more and more the...
