Yeah it's an odd choice but it doesn't look that bad. It could have been much worse with some odd background color choice. I think it looks OK there. Could have been done because the received assets aren't good enough.

Well, the italian release definitely was the first (non-japanese) release with a good video track. All the previous are flawed in some ways. It was extensively discussed on blu-ray.com with comparisons shots from the japanese release, AL's and FUNi's.

Right but there are some other distributors who also release stuff on 2+ countries with different languages and they default to Japanese. Not a big deal, just a nice touch.
