It's a shame the Another World shorts are not included. From what I heard, they're required viewing to get more context on the plot. Were they not included in the licence?
I'd love to see the proper HD remaster of Cyber City Oedo 808 get a UK release. Also, the Discotek Blu-ray of Memories deserves a UK release, that's been OOP for far too long now.
Yeah I think Detective Conan could have appeal in the UK market. It's basically like an anime take on Midsomer Murders and Agatha Christie with a hint of Inspector Gadget
Kind of surprised by this news, since GKids / AL have most of the Shinkai catalogue. Guess it's one part of having a monopoly on the market. While being distributed by CR does make it more likely to be shown at multiplexes, I do hope it can still show at SLA if possible, especially since it'll...
The JPBD for Mobile Suit Gundam: Cucuruz Doan's Island is releasing on June 3rd, 2022, the same day as the theatrical release in Japan, and it has English subtitles.
For my money, Hosoda's films started to go downhill once he took full control of the scripts. BaTB and Mirai were insufferable for me, and were a major downgrade compared to his previous films. I'll give him one last shot with Belle, and if I don't like it, I'll avoid Hosoda's future output.
The first teaser for Makoto Shinkai's upcoming film Suzume no Tojimari, releasing in Japan on November 11th, 2022. I wonder if it'll get shown at SLA, since it isn't too far behind the Japanese theatrical release date.
It's more of a Gkids issue than anything since AL used their disc. I remember watching the UK premiere of CotS in 2019 at SLA, which used the Gkids subs and you couldn't really register the signs since they often interrupted dialogue. Gkids are doing a great job bringing anime movies to English...
Can someone please confirm what the aspect ratio for Jujutsu Kaisen 0 is? The recent English subtitled trailer is in full 16:9, but some of the previous trailers are in letterbox 2:35:1.
I wonder if Discotek will license rescue the first six Conan movies, which were released by Funimation. The first 300 odd eps were cel animated, so I could see them doing BDs in the future.
The old Cyber City Blu comes with a documentary about the history of the series, it's impact on UK fandom and putting together the Blu. There are parts where you can tell they are making things up, like "there's no film master of the whole thing" and it "looks good on on a modern display" when...
Be nice if it was. I was shocked by the video quality on the old BD. Robert Woodhead's visit to the Tokyo Lab has lead to some priceless discoveries in regards to film preservation. Makes me wonder if the doc will be updated, as it is outdated and contains blatant lies.
Well, Criterion was provided poor materials for Godzilla films on purpose by Toho, and the Japanese cut of King Kong vs Godzilla was hardsubbed and is based on a HDTV master. I'm going to assume this is to prevent reverse importation, but it's still disappointing.
NGL, the price for Conan has put me off. Might wait till a sale. While I am all for AL tapping the 4K BD market, it is still a very small market. I do not have a 4K BD player so those will be useless to me. Personally, it would have been cool if they included the soundtrack CD, which just so...
