Well in my perspective, I think a lot of Jerome's decisions with Manga came from applying a more generalistic 'UK media market / DVD market' approach to the UK anime industry. So in essence, sound business sense for the media industry as a whole (basically, the UK DVD market circa 2005-2010)...
I always recommend people read the Dr. Nerdlove column on Kotaku, as it will completely re-centre any and all expectations you have about romance and I guess bring you to a place where you have a more grounded view of how things work in general - without being disillusioned by any bad habits or...
Yeah I'm not sure how I feel about Occultic 9 - I originally dropped it after the first episode, then picked it back up again as the third episode was actually really good / a pretty self contained story. But it's falling into its old habits again. That said, there's parts of its that are...
I guess the thing I always say to console myself when stuff is missing from UK releases is 'Well, it's either what we've got, or nothing' - because most likely, with the UK market in the state it's in that's probably the case. The market is so unbelievably small that in many respects we're lucky...
Let's be honest though, as Anime Ltd are pretty much the only UK distributor that authors their own discs - if the OVAs for a show aren't on the US release (for Manga / MVM titles) there's very little chance of getting them.
In Japan, the OVAs serve a specific purpose to get fans to pay for...
I think with Poco's Udon World, the literally Japanese translation of the title is something more like 'Killing Time in Udon Country' which obviously makes more sense in the context of the show.
But yeah, big fan of the show - it's definitely been the surprise hit for me this season - a real...
Although that MVM reply is quite old. Since then, didn't Aniplex basically release a version in America that was effectively a full price £300 port of the Japanese set, but with English subs added? I imagine MVM could *technically* release that if they wanted, but won't as it's way too pricey...
Ahh nice - yeah I guess Sword of the Stranger is a tricky one for a BR re-release over here considering it technically *did* come out on BR here via Beez (and the French version is still in stock and is basically the same) - but maybe if Anime Ltd could get a nice booklet together or something...
Another thing I've wondered - when are we going to start seeing more catalogue Funi stuff coming through to Crunchyroll? So far we only got D Gray Man and Grimgar - but I was under the assumption that they'd start to pull through other stuff too at some point...
Oh for the golden days where we got all of Madoka from Manga UK in one single reasonably priced set. Would never happen now.
re. Sailor Moon R - if I recall correctly - that film is 4:3 aspect ratio - have always wondered why certain old anime movies were like that when 'prestige' anime movies...
I'd definitely be interested in picking up Nichijou - and it sure seems like the kind of Funi title Anime Ltd would bring over too. Still a bit strange it's not getting a dub though, given the popularity of the show.
With this combined with the Wolf's Rain news, Funimation basically seems to be...
Wolf's Rain is such an incredible show. From the soundtrack to what's probably one of the most emotionally devastating final run of episodes ever. I'm interested to see what the upscale is like - personally I thought the Bacanno upscale didn't add too much difference, and of course Wolf's Rain...
It is kinda interesting to see Drifters doing so well, as in terms of pure 'quality' - many would argue it doesn't measure up to the likes of Yuri on Ice or Sound Euphonium series 2. But I think it hits that real action / aesthetic sweet spot that reminds a lot of fans of old-school violent...
Oh same, I was definitely into Age of Empires too - I poured hours into the first two games - the campaign modes especially. They were just so well put together.
And I always had a free pass to play the games as a kid too as they were 'historical' so my parents figured I was at least learning...
Glad they kept it to a standard size case - and three discs. Eventually I'm looking to trade-in all my MVM DVDs box sets for their BR upgrades where possible - so it'll save on serious shelf space in the long run (and mean less disc swapping while watching too)
I've been listening to the new White Lies album a bit this past week - nowhere near as good as their last one (which is probably one of my most-listened to albums of the past 5 years) - but good to still hear they've stuck with the super 80s-sounding vibe.
I do wonder if they'll ever bring it out now - they must have paid money to acquire the license in the first place, so if they don't it'll be a waste of money - but equally, now they've missed the boat to create hype, maybe the JP licensor got pissed off at them and took the license back.
Or...
I think that might have been me making that point!
Although in this case it's probably worth differentiating between the sort of character I was getting at (the modern 'girl next door' / childhood friend type - usually quite tomboyish / outgoing / genki etc.) and the more 'traditional Japanese...
