Your largest collection of one specific series

If we're talking manga I'd say it's Berserk. I've got about 23 volumes of that I reckon. ..and I'm still behind..

Which anime would you like to see "re animated"?

'Welcome to the NHK': Despite being one of my favourite animes it suffers from some serious breakdowns in the animation department, something which I always thought was a shame given the quality of the storytelling.

    Texhnolyze

I've seen the first episode, love the bleak atmosphere it establishes. The whole thing of showing without telling is strangely compelling too. When I'm not broke I'll have to nab the boxset.

Where to start with the following series?

Agreement here, I thought the 2nd Patlabor film was a vast improvement on the first. The animation is of a higher standard, the shift of focus onto Gotoh is a welcome one and the plot is more complex and intriguing. I know a lot of people hate it for similar reasons to most of Oshii's work...

Cheers Voddas, it's always pleasant to recieve feedback but I understand people have their own things to do. Pleased you're still following and still intrigued. Probably because I've got more free time at the moment to work on them. I try to get them in whenever I can, but often they can...

    Most Overrated/Underrated Animes?

I'm with Ayase on Evangelion. My own views on the series aside, I hear about as much criticism as there is praise for it. The point that Eva always gets a mention in debates like this is proof. You could argue it's overrated by certain sources, but overall these days there's enough negativity...

    Eden of the East

I'll agree that some of the plot twists at the end felt kind of rushed (Takizawa as King of Japan?!), still I did love the final scene where the missiles were being shot down, at least on a visual level it was a striking moment. I also liked how the missing NEETS tied into the story aswell...

Rate the Last Anime You Watched Out of 10

Eden of the East - 7/10 Despite the tremedous amount of potential the series held in the first few episodes it did fall rather flat around the midsection. The show seemed to be suffering from an identity crisis where it couldn't decide whether to be slice of life romance or a hi-tech...

    For Criticism, ???? and Profit.

Brilliant work on the face there, the only thing I'd say needs fixing are legs in the last one - they look a tad too thick, although perhaps that's intentional stylising. Aside from that, bring on the colour!

Hmm, would be interested to see this story idea you speak of realised. :) Really like some of the character details, my one criticism would be that some of the proportions are slightly off - I'd say you should develop your figure drawing a little more. Then again, I'm in no position to...

    Most Overrated/Underrated Animes?

I thought it wrapped up nicely in the end, just felt like it should have been at least several episodes shorter. While some of the stories were genuinely thoughtful or emotional, others just reeked of pretention (particularly those in the second half). I got the impression of the plot moving...

    Most Overrated/Underrated Animes?

Fair point. As you stated, Gungrave is an example of a bad opening episode leading into a great series. It doesn't help when an anime starts on the wrong foot, but judging something like 26 episodes based on one alone seems fairly rash. So long as there is a glimmer of something interesting or...

    Most Overrated/Underrated Animes?

Exactly. Rather than going for cheap hooks in the first episode like excessively dark foreshadowing or a fight where half the series budget is blown in 30 seconds, it opts for steady development. Something which pays off all the more as the story progresses.

    Most Overrated/Underrated Animes?

It was actually this that drew me in, as at the time I was looking for something different to super powered shonen heros and moe girl rom-coms. While it requires some patience initially to get into, it proved to be a thoroughly rewarding series. Like many animes the first episode hardly...

    Most Overrated/Underrated Animes?

I mentioned one of its characters in the other 'underrated' thread, so I'll mention the anime itself: Planetes. Never saw much hype around it, while the concept itself sounds extremely dull. When I watched it by chance though I found it to be one of the best hard sci-fi's I've seen in a long...
