"DreamWorks has purchased the rights to the Japanese manga Ghost in the Shell.
The company will adapt the futuristic cop thriller into a 3-D live-action movie, according to Variety.
Written by Masamune Shirow, the plot follows the lives of Japanese National Public Safety Commission...
Animax is launching in Portugal again, through IPTV as well.
It's interesting that they seem to use IPTV to broadcast the channel in Europe, I wonder if a BT/Tiscali launch is imminent, it would get a couple of thousand new customers with an exclusive anime channel.
I believe these are for the Polish/Romanian services.
There is a slight chance I could be wrong, it's not expensive to buy these licenses it's entirely possible that SPTI have bought the licenses just incase for a UK launch.
Though I'm almost certain these are for Europe. :(
Sorry to rain on your parade here but they are for pan-European broadcasting. They've been there for years.
It's cheaper and easier (less beaucracy) to broadcast from the UK, you'll find the AXN licences for Europe in the list as well.
Yes, we're more like America. A different way of doing things, I suppose the mainstreams press reluctance to adopt anything European doesn't help either.
The adult swim type block won't happen on one of the kid channels however I could see it happening on Scuzz etc.
CSC are fairly happy with NME and it pulls in about 3000-5000 viewers, looking at the animecentral forum with 2000 members it's not exactly god awful and I hazzard a guess there...
It's been classified by the BBFC, it got a 12A rating.

A 12A suggests that it will have a theatrical release, as it's only used for cinemas.
For some reason Television box sets and television shows in general are not rated by the MPAA they only rate movies.
My theory is that the American rating system for television i.e TV-MA is displayed clearly when a programme starts hence the reason MPAA only rates films as most buyers of the...
Hmm, it's a tricky one this I do believe fan subs are detrimental to industry but not as much as people think.
I'm looking at the video game industry here, after music the video gaming industry was high in the pirate trade just look how easily available games are on the internet but the...
Can anyone remember this at all? It claims Nick at Nite (Paramount) used to air anime acquired from Manga entertainment.
I can remember Channel 4 late at night and Bravo and Sci Fi used to air the odd one once in a while but can't remember Paramount ever airing anime.
I didn't really start...
Get this, I can see why the changes are happening that's all I'm trying to say.
The threat of nuclear attack on Japan can be changed to a threat of a massive terrorist attack on US soil. That could be used to explain New Manhattan, it's not difficult to see.
Another reason it's been moved...
"Americanization" irony.
In all seriousness I'm against remakes of any type however I'm willing to give AKIRA a go, I think the changes are understandable.
It's release must be imminent as it's been put through classification along with a slew of ADV titles.
http://www.bbfc.co.uk/recent/index.php?media=film
I'm not keen on remakes at all, but I would assume that Otomo has given his blessing to the changes.
Some of the changes seem logical, I mean we can't have a bunch of white actors running around Neo-Tokyo just wouldn't make much sense and it would be overtly racist.
There's a lot of anime...
Ghibl market in the UK is a odd one, seems like the anime market is niche but Ghibli's popularity seems to be in a league of it's own.
What doesn't help is that Disney distribute in the US and they don't like to associate themselves with "risque" products.
