I think Blow Out is his best film but the impression I get is that's now the general consensus, no? I think Phantom of the Paradise is wonderful and while Obsession is a relatively by-the-numbers homage to Vertigo, the Florentine setting and a magnificent Bernard Herrmann score elevate it...

I'm with Prof Irony on this one, De Palma did far better work both before and since. It's in the bottom rung of his 70s/80s works

Before I import the Discoteks, I don't suppose there's been any whispers about AL picking up the Urusei Yatsura movies?

Spider-Man: No Way Home - Comme ci, comme ça. It feels like big-budget fanfiction, with characters written to serve plot rather than the other way around. Zendaya gives a fine performance - she's one of the most talented actresses of her age and really deserves some more substantial big screen...

The reason your point stands with those franchises is that the characters are given back story that's designed to be based on an original template; Bond has, over the years, largely been a blank canvas - a character defined by his job rather than his own history. Fleming's books might be the...

Nothing 'parallel universe' about it. Sean Connery was Bond in the 60s. Craig was Bond in the 00s-present.

West Side Story - Phenomenal. Spielberg's best in 15 years, at least.

I would say that The Princess Bride, Stand By Me, and When Harry Met Sally are all fine films.

I'd double dip too for that very reason, but I do think/hope that it's only a matter of time before there are new masters available. The existing transfers must be about 15 years old now and I would imagine that it has a big enough profile in Japan for a 4K restoration....maybe?

What was the question / answer? It's such a breathtaking work, I'd love it to get a release here. I know that Arrow have tried in the past, but they don't have many/any anime connections so I wonder if someone like AL could make a breakthrough.

It feels criminal that the Patlabor films are absent from the UK market. The first two are masterpieces. I'd love to see AL release more Oshii; I'd even be keen for his latest series, Vlad Love, though it seemed to generate as much buzz as an anaesthetised bee.

Arrow's release of Sailor Suit and Machine Gun is out now. I first discovered the cinema of Shinji Sōmai nearly a decade ago, when a retrospective was staged at the Edinburgh International Film Festival in 2012. Unfortunately, I only managed to see one of the films screened - Typhoon Club - but...

Pretty stunned at Belladonna on 4K - it's not a title that I would have assumed flew off the shelves but I am here for it. Maybe we can get some more vintage films soon? Those 4K Toei Doga restorations look mighty fine, especially The Little Prince and the Eight Headed Dragon. Great to see...

I think the cinema might well give you a refund if you ask, but I'm not sure that particular Act would cover it. Also, you'd probably have a much stronger case if you left during the screening itself rather than asking for it afterwards.

It has been disappointing that there's been so few subtitled screenings (and that there hasn't been one near me, but that's the nature of the game). Though, as the definition of "goods" in the act is "anything physical which you can move" I'll be surprised it it actually applies in this...
