They really are the most stupidly named films ever made.

So, I have Future Boy Conan (Part 1) in hand and it's a beauty. When it was first revealed, I was a bit disappointed that it didn't use the art from the Japanese set but this has a nice, subtle embossing that actually looks quite classy and the silhouette style reminds me of the Japanese Ghibli...

4K Blu Ray collection & Upcoming Releases discussion thread

It was only a couple of years ago that it seemed like every new 4K UHD release would be in a 2 for £30 deal just a few months after release. It seems to take much longer now with a lot more limited selection. There was a UK steelbook, I bought it from the Warner Bros shop on release day.

Nadia is great, but this new 'restoration' looks like they've just run some DNR over the new master. Horrific

Can you put sneak some paperwork in with Bandai/Sunrise for Space Runaway Ideon, Combat Mecha Xabungle and Brain Powerd in amongst the Gundam please? 😜

Rate the Last Film You Watched

It has been not a bad week or so... Everything Everywhere All At Once - On one hand, this is fresh, inventive, freewheeling filmmaking of a type that's rare to see in a multiplex, grounded by some impressive central performances. On the other, it's a film deeply in love with itself - a clever...

Overseas The Discotek Media Thread (plus AnimEigo)

The Flying Phantom Ship is great news and all (and I always moan about something!) but I'd have thought we'd get Hakujaden or The Little Prince and the Eight-Headed Dragon before that, considering they've had recent 4K restorations. The Puss in Boots films have been restored by Toei recently as...

    Asian Cinema Thread

RRR is now on Netflix (albeit only in its Hindi dub, but one that's director-approved and by the actors themselves) and for my money is the best film of the year so far by a country mile. Incredible filmmaking.

    [Overseas] Anime News & Announcements

The Wings of Honneamise is being released on 4K UHD in Japan this November - with English subtitles and dub included! As pricey as you'd expect but I'm absolutely down for it. Hopefully Bandai give similar treatment to Patlabor and Macross: Do You Remember Love? sooner rather than later

I've been waiting for Mad Max to drop sub-£40 but that is mighty tempting.

The encodes could be improved upon but the biggest issue with the US release of the Patlabor movies is that the Japanese audio is the 5.1 'sound renewal' tracks that are complete re-recordings with different special effects and music placements. As I understand it, the Japanese Blu-Rays also...

We surely won't be get a physical release of Cucuruz Doan's Island before any screenings here? I would have thought that War in the Pocket or 08th MS Team would be next up but I've been saying that as a while so... I'm not Andrew but I can't envisage the BBFC ever lowering their price. Why...

I thought it would probably be something like that, but happy to hear it confirmed! 29,300 words is just slightly more than I've used begging you to release it over the years 😜 -- I confess I don't understand what Crunchyroll do and do not own, but if you guys could get Eizouken and...

It does feel like unless you're already interested / looking for it, you're going to be totally unaware of AL's upcoming releases. With Miyazaki's name on it, you'd think that Future Boy Conan's first UK release would be getting some press in the more general film outlets.

Though changing the price (when many people were already complaining about it) from what was previously announced is a bit annoying.
