Revolutionary Girl Utena is up for pre-order at the reasonable early bird price of £69.99. I'll certainly be having that! Though I do wish that the art that AL are using on the amarays were the design for the outer box because they're gorgeous and the box is...well, I'm wondering where that hand...
It's great that we're finally getting an HD (and UHD) upgrade for Martin but it's a shame that after waiting so long it feels incomplete - not only not having the recently-discovered extended cut but also not having Argento's 'Wampyr' cut that was on the Arrow DVD. I'll probably still pick up...
This concept of theatrical and home video versions fascinates me; I'm used to seeing nothing but outrage if there are any alterations to the theatrical cut of a film (without it at least being presented alongside).
Aftersun - Holy -! The debut feature from writer-director Charlotte Wells explores a young woman's memory of a childhood holiday to Turkey with her father, who is played by Paul Mescal. It's extraordinary; I doubt I'll see a better film this year. It's the way it doesn't just explore memory but...
I'm not sure if it's brave or stupid to release what has been generally panned as one of the worst (likely fake 4K) remasters of recent memory on a format that will make its flaws even more obvious but I'm curious to see if AL manage to pull off a miracle.
Lady Oscar
One of the earliest live-action manga adaptations, Lady Oscar is an English-language French/Japanese co-produced adaptation of Riyoko Ikeda's classic The Rose of Versailles. It's a fascinating entry in Demy's filmography - his most political work up to that point, with an anger and...
Now when a title that they said would be released on 10/1 actually comes out on 1/10 they can claim that's what they meant all along!
(I'm sorry, couldn't pass up the opportunity for a cheap gag!)
I'm going to guess that AL have a Christmas announcement lined up for the 4K restorations of Hakujaden, The Little Prince and the Eight-Headed Dragon, and Takahata's Horus Prince of the Sun.
...If I hope out loud for long enough there's a chance I'll be right one day, right? 😛

I think The Devils is one of the 2 or 3 best British films made in the second half of the last century. Few other films are as incisive or as indignant about power (and its abuse). And what set design! What a score! What an Oliver Reed!
One of Obayashi’s most popular films in his homeland, The Girl Who Leapt Through Time was voted as one of the top 100 Japanese films ever made in the most recent Kinema Junpo poll. The middle film in his ‘Onomichi Trilogy’ of films set in his hometown, it is based upon an early novel by Yasutaka...
That's a rather incredible turn of events. A really laudable effort by SLA - especially since, as Andrew tweeted, all the money paid is currently tied up with Filmhouse's administrators. I don't think anyone would have criticised them for writing it off but this is certainly great for...
The Belmont was a Picturehouse before Filmhouse took it over. IIRC, Cineworld bought over Picturehouse about 10 years ago and because they already have 2 cinemas in Aberdeen they were forced to sell or shut one of them due to competition law which would presumably still apply.
Your booking is with what was Filmhouse so I'd be very surprised if the Scotland Loves Anime team would even be able to legally access booking details to transfer them even if they wanted to
All the staff have immediately been made redundant and I can tell you that the administrators have already changed the locks on the Aberdeen branch, so I suspect the only hope would be some sort of rescue package....which you hope would have been done before making all the staff redundant, if it...
In other news, Inu-Oh is great. I wasn't entirely convinced during some of the runtime but it really sticks the landing. I'll certainly be picking up the physical release whenever that happens. Hopefully AL are able to get some nice extras for it, it would be particularly good to get extras...
