I've never realised there was any problem beyond a certain preciousness with what materials they'll allow access to. Criterion, Arrow and the BFI have released Toho films in recent years.
I don't think HDR would have added anything to Conan, but we'll never know. Millennium Actress looks fantastic.
And I don't think there's anything 'cult' about it!
Re: the price of Conan, I think £50 is a pretty reasonable price as an early bird when you compare it to the price of other 4K UHDs out there. Arrow and Second Sight routinely charge £30 - £40 for a single film on 4K UHD. AL's own Your Name release is currently £35 / £50 SRP.

Thoughts:
Yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes. Yes. A historic release. I'm honestly stunned that Anime Limited are releasing this on 4K UHD, but I'm over the moon.
I'm a bit comme ci, comme ça on the art for the slipbox, especially since the Japanese set was so damn...

I'm not holding out much hope of it getting released here any time soon, but I saw when scrolling through Amazon Japan that Yoshiyuki Tomino's late 90s series Brain Powerd is making its Blu-Ray debut next month
I'm not really sure what your point is here? Are you suggesting that Cannes is anti-semitic?
And the reigning Palme d'Or winner is a film that has someone impregnated by a Cadillac and then, er, oozes motor oil from her vagina. It probably the closest to Troma they've ever got!
My point was that I'm not sure it's a reason for diversifying print media. But I'm skeptical that they sell poorly at all now - Discotek seem to be doing well and AL themselves have announced/released Future Boy Conan and Belladonna of Sadness on 4K UHD. 4K UHD! Discotek releasing a few...
