I've got two definitions here: it's either a colonel/ (navy) captain or it means "great difference", both nouns, but you'll have to check with Chris for an accurate description...if it is indeed Japanese :?

Same. I had to read it at least twice before coming to terms with the plot! The anime is slightly easier to follow, but you still need to concentrate. The episodes are brilliant, but it isn't in my top ten.
