My PC's gone funny, so I was forced to find alternate entertainment. Watched the first three episodes of One Piece on the BBC iPlayer. Quite enjoyed them. Still not sure if I can last the full 1,000+, but we shall see.

Akiba Maid War episodes 10-12: And so the violence continues. I'm not sure which I found more gross, the senseless shootings or the cutesy maid stuff. The ending theme was very reminiscent of the songs of Meiko Kaiji in Lady Snowblood and her other excellent movies.

Whoops. Laughing too hard to do a proper job, obviously. Here it is.

    General anime thoughts/discussion thread.

Just saw this article in the newspaper, and immediately thought of this scene from the end of episode 1 (?) of Heaven's Lost Property.

Akiba Maid Wars arrived today and I felt in the mood for a light-hearted romp through the maid cafes of Akihabara. I do wish I'd read more than the title ordering it, as it got very dark very quickly. I think the body count for the first episode was around 30 maids dead on the street. They try...

What manga are you reading now?

Just finished volume 6 of The Hidden Dungeon Only I Can Enter, which appears to be the last one written. Surprising, as it did get both a manga and anime adaptation, but then it was released around the time Covid broke the planet... It was a enjoyable and light-hearted read, apart from the...

Finally finished Sorcerous Stabber Orphen season 2: Happily, they got rid of most of the serious stuff and the first 80% of the series was just the main characters bitching about one another while wandering the land. I got confused by the episode when the trolls tried to go to the moon, as...

BBC iPlayer Acquires Rights to ONE PIECE English Dub in the UK

This is a better option that trying the show out by buying the hundreds of DVDs. I just hope I don't enjoy it too much. :)

Kickstarter Thread - Anime & Manga Projects

Anyone (else) interested in The Dagger of Kamui Treasure Trove Edition. I've just gone for the basic BluRay as the postage charges are verging on the criminal.

The Anime/Manga I Bought Today Was...

Picked up manga of A.I. Love You 3&4 from a little bookshop for £4, so had to buy 1&2 from eBay for another £6ish. Now trying to decide whether I can justify buying the outstanding 30 volumes of Invaders Of The Rokujouma. I note the collection volumes seem to cost more than buying them...

UK Anime Blu-ray & DVD Bargains

HMV are having a big 50% off sale. Some good anime bargains. I picked up Princess Jellyfish (and a Marlene Dietrich boxset, as I saw Ute Lemper perform Remembering Marlene in Edinburgh last week).

UK Anime Distributor Anime Limited Discussion Thread

The only thing in the sale that is tempting to me is Tonikawa (must have missed the EB while enjoying myself in Edinburgh). But with a AL November release date, I guess that means an extra wait of 6 months to a year?

Picked this up for 50p in s charity shop today. No info, no idea. Anyone heard of it?

What manga are you reading now?

Finally giving the papery world a go. Read the first volume of invaders of the rokyujoma and enjoyed it, despite either the author or translator constantly putting actions and phrases backwards, making the dialogue rather confusing. I wonder if Edinburghs forbidden planet has snow white with the...

Before leaving for the Edinburgh Fringe, I managed to squeeze in Urusei Yatsura 2022 version episodes 10-11: Sometimes I think the writers show an episode with Ataru acting even more loutish than usual, and immediately follow it with one showing he can on occasion have feelings towards Lum, so...

Urusei Yatsura 2022 version episodes 1-9: Vibrant colours, episodes split into two-three mini vignettes and an (just acceptable) English dub are the main differences. Lum appears to be much more aggressive and quick tempered. I have recognised a fair few storylines from the original series...

The Anime/Manga I Bought Today Was...

Finally gave up hope of a release of Amanchu! Advance (season 2) anywhere in the Western world and ordered a copy from eBay. It's better than nothing. I expect an announcement in coming weeks that All The Anime or MVM has licensed a UK version.

Orphen episodes 21-24: Bit of a cop out ending, as Azalie appears to get away with her crimes. Not often a thwarted romance gets this out of hand. Also, I found Orphen and Azalie's relative ages appeared to keep changing in the flashbacks. Sometimes they're the same age, sometimes she's a year...

Orphen episodes 10-20: I swear at the end of episode 19, the VA said the next episode was the final one. Liars! I think this would be 1,000% better without all the serious plot getting in the way of the gang of idiots (and their cute wolf cub) wandering round the world and causing mayhem.

Orphen episodes 1-10: They certainly took their time with storylines back in the dark ages (2002), didn't they? It's been taking two or three episodes to tell a story that in a more recent anime would take up about ten minutes. So much moody music and slow lingering shots across the landscape...
