    Sonia's art ^_^

Wow! So far just had time to look at the second one, but it's good. I'm always really envious of anyone who can draw so consistantly to be able to do manga. Will have to look at the other one soon. :-)

Advice for a budding artist, please!

Finished colouring another one! http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/31580686/ Main focus was on the hair, and boy did it take a while...

Advice for a budding artist, please!

Thanks guys. It's always nice to be told you're doing okay! :D Apart from the original sketch (done with a shiny new propelling pencil on A3 paper these days, makes such a difference), all my work is done on the computer. At present I'm only using Photoshop, though I have heard good things...

Advice for a budding artist, please!

Okay, and while I haven't finished colouring the last one, I've completed the main lineart for the next one. http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/31348653/ Quite proud of this one. :D

What manga are you reading now?

Fruits Basket 13 (or should that be フルーツバスケット...?), albeit very slowly. :? Also still working my way though Rurouni Kenshin, up to volume 13 now.

Advice for a budding artist, please!

Hmm. Well, I've been reading a lot of Fruits Basket recently, so I've definately been influenced by it, though I wouldn't say I conciously used it for reference. :? I mostly draw straight from my imagination (although I have to admit to using a pic of Kenshin for part of the pose for the...

    Piccys by Mini-Mariah!!

That has to be one of the cutest things I have ever seen. :D

    Shinsengumi manga...

After diving deep into the Rurouni Kenshin manga (I'm on volume 11 and enjoying it a lot :D ), I've started wondering about finding a manga that centres on the Shinsengumi (who have been a favourite of mine for a long time) I'm already planning on checking out Peacemaker Kurogane, and I...

Not a bad start, I hope you'll agree...?

Again, another strong picture. Proportions-wise, he head is a little too small, but everything else is spot on. Whilst you can play around with the proportions in something like manga-style art (as long as you do it with style...) you will generally find the heads to be over-large rather than...

Advice for a budding artist, please!

Well, gonna start colouring that one this evening. Finished the other one, though I'm not at all happy with the background and intend to redo it at some point. I've just got so monumentally frustrated with it right now though, so have posted it up...

Advice for a budding artist, please!

Well, struggling with the background for the last one, so I've finished another lineart for the moment. It's at http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/30871142/ I think this has to be my favourite of the things I've done so far. It's cropped from a much larger picture, but this just seemed to...

Not a bad start, I hope you'll agree...?

Ah. See, I do all mine digitally, in Photoshop. I'm sure I'm perfectly capable of inking them on the original sketch, but I'm nowhere near sure enough of myself....

Not a bad start, I hope you'll agree...?

I had wondered why you hadn't posted anything up lately... Continuing to improve, I see. In general the pose is very strong, especially the dropped right shoulder, though you are right about the boots. They just don't seem 3D somehow. My only other criticism is that the eyes aren't...

The Anime/Manga I Bought Today Was...

Bought Fruits Basket 13 & 14 from Amazon.co.jp... Should be interesting to see how much I can understand without having the translation to refer to.... Also bought Rurouni Kenshin 10. :D

Advice for a budding artist, please!

Afraid that's just the way I've taken to colouring eyes... If I'm doing a full colour version, I tend not to draw details like pupils and light before hand, because I go for the look that's kinda like a coloured glass sphere. I'm taking my time with colouring this one though, I've found a...

Advice for a budding artist, please!

Okay, and yet another piece started whilst I really should have been working. The pencil sketch for this was done entirely while at work.... http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/30215963/ Inked it in Photoshop, decided to do it properly this time. Took ages. Now all I have to do is colour...

What manga are you reading now?

Well, I've managed to get hooked on Rurouni Kenshin and Furuba. Currently up to #5 of Kenshin and #7 of Furuba (the English translation), though I have the first 4 Japanese language ones on the way....

Advice for a budding artist, please!

And... done in halftone. I'd like to use screentone eventually, but I thought I'd try it first with simple halftones made in Photoshop. Keeping this one as simple as possible, so no real background. http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/29758765/

    Photoshop drawing

That's brilliant! I can't really draw in Photoshop, I find myself CG tracing at best. I'm jealous.

Not a bad start, I hope you'll agree...?

Hands?! Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh!! The most difficult thing to draw, in my opinion. It really is just practice, though it might be a good idea to find some anime / manga pictures with really well done hands, and have a go at copying them. Other than that, yes the head...
