Theatrical trailer for Origin: Spirits of the past

I think it does. Since it's one of those style over substance type of movies, I'd recommend catching it at the cinema instead of buying it on DVD!

New books on Spirited Away, Satoshi Kon by Andrew Osmond

Definitely the Kon book for me. The Spirited Away book sounds like a nice companion piece for Helen McCarthy's too, since that was published a while back so doesn't feature any of his films after Mononoke Hime.

First glimpes of footage from Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea

That's cuteness in the extreme! I was secretly hoping for a return to his more 'grown up' Mononoke Hime or Porco Rosso style stuff but I'll settle for a Totoro/Jellyfish combo. At the very least it'll be harmless feelgood fare that'll bring out our inner child!

Rate the last movie you watched out of 10

@Sy: I love Groundhog Day! Bill Murray at his finest (second only to Lost In Translation I reckon). Iron Man: 7/10 Not bad as superhero movies go (not that I've seen many) but I agree with Empire in saying that the inevitable sequel is going to be better. This is just laying the groundwork...

    Music with Sentimental value

That end theme to the NGE movie is fantastic! I'd almost forgotten about that one. Not many songs that I'm particularly attached to but Home by Depeche Mode has special memories attached to it. Similarly Mayonaise by the Smashing Pumpkins is a really important tune to me. It was the first of...

    Review of Eureka Seven #10

<img src="http://www.animeuknews.net/img/uploaded/2008-06-18eureka-seven-volume-10-cover.jpg"> <b>Review of Eureka Seven #10 by Martin</b> And so we reach the end of the road for Renton, Eureka, the Gekkostate and the others as the final confrontation with the true nature of the Coralians...

Any Bands/Singers that you don't particularly like?

I lol'd. Seriously though, I think it's not rap itself that I dislike, but commercial rap (which I call 'c-rap'). Before the flaming starts I'll say I dislike a lot of commercial, manufactured music. When money and image takes priority over the music, that's when I lose interest in it...

Do you keep a list of the anime you watch?

What he said. I have a large number of shows on the go simultaneously so I often lose track of what episode I'm on with each. I have an AnimeSeen account too. MAL AnimeSeen

    DVD's like this.

The DVD release of the first Gunbuster series from Kiseki was region 0 but given the poor sound and video quality, it might as well be a bootleg! :P Looking at the neat job Beez made of the GB2 DVD though, I'd like to see them do the same for the first one. *nudge, nudge, hint, hint etc.*

Castle of Cagliostro on Film 4.

Oh man, that film is older than me! It's tremendous fun though - well worth catching if you can.

They were right.... too much manga could kill you

That would be hilarious if it weren't so tragic...I suppose it's commonplace even in places like Japan with all that technology at their disposal that people still get killed in earthquakes. But still...it's a lousy way to go, even if it's cruelly ironic in some ways (cue 'first real-life...

Tokyopop cut back on their UK manga releases by 20%

It sounds like bad news but they're probably dropping the titles that are less popular, which is quite a prudent move really. TBH I've always had trouble keeping up with the sheer volume of new releases that TP brings out so this sounds like less of admission of defeat and more of a reality...

Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya "new animation" pics

Or the artist submitted a Shana promo pic by mistake! :P I didn't realise Noizi Ito worked on character designs for both until recently, but I can certainly detect a definite style to her work. Anyway, although Haruhi's new look is very Shana-esque I think the longer bangs suit her. At any...

    Advent children

I think you and I are related or something...my situation's exactly the same, right down to the "I can't be bothered with the expense of a TV licence." Basically, DVDs, rent and food take priority over whatever garbage is showing on TV. I can read the news online anyway! Back o/t, Spirits...

Anime NOW weekend at BFI Southbank London

I'm going to this one but kinda forgot the exact day...I now have to double check I booked the right afternoon off work. But yeah, I'm definitely going to be there.

    Deathnote

The first arc is excellent but it did feel a bit dragged-out later on - Near and Mello seemed like L clones rehashing the same old ideas, which is a shame because that first arc is one of my all-time favourite manga stories. It has pretty much everything else going in its favour - good artwork...

Behold, the sword of power! Excaliborg!?

You're an opinionated idiot. Fact.</discussion> Back to more constructive things, Dokuro-chan is indeed absurd. And twisted. And not for everyone. It kinda reminds me of South Park in some ways because of the nature of the comedy - not to everyone's taste but it's certainly a refreshing...

Ghost in the Shell 2.0 is announced

I've seen some screenies, and they do indeed look noticably improved on a side-by-side comparison. Still, the film has aged quite well anyway so I'm not sure why they're going to the trouble of this when a polish and redubbing isn't particularly necessary. Sky Crawlers is higher on my list of...

Akihabara stabbing spree sees 7 killed, 17 more wounded

I guess that in a country with a (relatively) low crime rate, there isn't much call for it. That said, there are occasional cases, such as the nerve gas attack on the Tokyo underground in 1995, in which at least one of the perpatrators was given the death sentence. The guy in charge of the cult...

The Daily Mail preview wine-tasting manga Kami No Shizuku

Expect scare stories "Evil comics promoting alcoholism!" from the said paper in the near future! Obvious DM jabs aside, this is good news. Even the fandom seems to overlook the more 'fringe' manga titles (series aimed at salarymen, focusing on sports such as golf spring to mind) so any...
