Lamen-ya

Wagamama aren't bad - you know what you're getting wherever you go (i.e. the ramen in Manchester tastes as good as what they serve in London) but I like to find good independent ones too. There's a great place in Leeds that sells excellent Japanese cuisine with the likes of green tea, Asahi...

    Gigs/Festivals/Concerts

I missed the festivals this year (I'd love to see Muse live someday) but the My Bloody Valentine reunion tour made up for that. They were the loudest live band I've ever heard, which is saying something! Gorgeous and mindblowing, but painfully loud.

    Urinary foibles

This has to be the randomest poll ever on this forum but eh, but when it's ALL serious threads it just gets dull. ;) I go for option #1. Walk in, answer the call of nature, wash hands and leave. And in the name of all that is holy, NEVER break the Golden Rule of the Mens' Room...no talking.

    The Political Compass

I thought I was too soft and in cloud cuckoo land but it seems I share quite a lot of views with Nelson Mandela and the Dalai Lama. It certainly explains why I'm unimpressed with the current UK government. Who wants to vote for me next election...?

My MELONPAN, I can't believe I found it!

Looks tasty. How much does it cost BTW? The Japan Centre seems to be quite pricey. The sake section downstairs is pretty impressive these days though...they must've had some serious refurbishment in the last few months.

Yoko Kanno to be seiyuu in Genius Party short; Juno Reactor

If she and Gabriela Robin are indeed one and the same as rumour suggests it'll be alright I think. I find it hard to believe that an accomplished musician and songwriter can't actually sing (cool link BTW, Sy). I'm still hoping that the first Genius Party compilation will get a DVD release or...

Yoshitoshi ABe manga published in English on iTunes

Hopefully this will be published outside of Apple's little enclosed market (when you don't have an ipod or Touch, it really does seem enclosed) - maybe digital manga is the way forward in future. I've noticed ABe has had an affection for Apple products for years so I guess I shouldn't be too...

    Mamoru Oshii talks Ponyo

Oshii's critique of Ghibli movies are interesting if nothing else (I'm remembering the infamous incestuous subtext he allegedly detected in Grave of the Fireflies). That said, he is a successful film maker in his own right so should be worth listening to; if he's outspoken too, maybe that's a...

    I'm stumped.

UTorrent works fine with me too but just last week it refused to work one day. Since you've tried port forwarding, have you tried setting a static IP address? That might be worth a shot - I'd say be careful about screwing up your router but you seem to know how to reset it if all goes wrong...

    Review of Berserk #3

Review of Berserk #3 by Martin Guts carries out the mission Griffith set for him but events take an unexpected and bloody turn. Unfortunately nobody has much time to dwell on the ramifications because the...

i just watched the rebuild of evangelion and...

I was disappointed by the familiarity too - some of the updated animation looked better while some should have been left how it was. It does make for a smooth transition into the new storyline though - I can't wait to see why Kaoru was sitting on the moon with what looks like a second...

    Review of Black Lagoon #3

Review of Black Lagoon #3 by Martin Black Lagoon rounds off the First Barrage with rip-roaring conclusion to the Unstoppable Housemaid arc before following the crew as they embark on a mission set by...

    Golgo 13 Anime TV Series

It's as bad as the movie, if that's what you mean! :P In all seriousness though, if you enjoyed the film you'd probably enjoy the series too. It was a bit too dull and predictable for me, but it has a GAR grittiness that's quite the rare thing these days.

    The Dark Knight

Just got back from watching it...I'm tired and awed but for now I'll say WOW. Like Sy, I never felt really impressed by a Batman film until Begins, which was a great 'realistic' take on his character and how he became who he is. Ledger's performance was superb but TBH every significant...

    Ninja Scroll 2?

The first Ninja Scroll is very good at what it does (i.e. mindless violence in great style)...if the original director is involved in the sequel I can see it turning out to be quite entertaining. I've long since lost interest in the NGE live-action - the animated Rebuild movies seem to be...

By 'getting hitched' do you mean getting married? If so, congratulations! And have a great trip. Post holiday pics plz. ^_^

My concerns for the 'Anime Series'

I can't really add much more than the sound advice already given apart from reiterating the fact that you're not alone. I'd recommend checking out other OAVs or movies by the same staff or with a similar theme or 'feel' (try something like Only Yesterday, or one of the movies by Satoshi Kon...

Afro Samurai's profit, sequel, live action movie on the way

I remember Ecks vs Sever being absolute rubbish actually, but she's done some pretty decent films too (Kill Bill vol 1 and Lucky Number Slevin for instance). More Afro? I can actually see a second helping of that to be a good thing - it was mindless violence from start to finish but it looked...

    Reviews

It's ultimately Paul's decision but personally I don't see a problem at all. As far as manga reviews are concerned, the more the merrier - you're right that it's a new feature that we're trying to get off the ground! :)

Crunchyroll to add 12 ADV Titles

Angelic Layer sounds familiar and iirc is a long-standing fan favourite, and I've wanted to get Nadesico for ages. The rest are either 1. I've never heard of or 2. are famous for being utterly awful (Re: Lady Death). It's a nice idea and worth keeping an eye on but I'd wait until they add some...
