R.O.D. is every bit as awesome as the TV series but it's only 3 episodes long. The visuals are fantastic too.
It's actually better to watch it before the TV series actually.
If you want old school from the old OAV golden age there's the old Bubblegum Crisis and of course Riding Bean. :D
Metallica: Death Magnetic
Oh hell yes. They sound like they used to...and even have Hammett's solos again!
Dir en Grey: Uroboros
It's a weird record for sure but damn, it has to be their most experimental so far.
Mogwai: the Hawk is Howling
More assured than their old stuff and pure...

Review of Black Cat #4 by Martin
Black Cat continues to be a game of two halves as it divides its time between the Apostles of the Stars with their plans to surpass Chronos and the more trivial...
I'm currently loving the second barrage of Black Lagoon. If it's action packed you're after, look no further. It's not very light-hearted at all though!
If you want light hearted you can't get much better than Aria.
I found the characters and the romance subplot to be a bit lacking when placed alongside the rest of the Macross franchise but I agree with Aion that the culture clash aspect was a refreshing break from the norm and as for the aerial combat scenes...I don't think any other show has matched them...
I can never make my mind up because there are so many that I can't narrow it down to 10. According to my last.fm account, my 10 most listened to bands are:
1. Smashing Pumpkins
2. Yoko Kanno
3. My Bloody Valentine
4. God is an Astronaut
5. Dir en Grey
6. Joy Division
7. 65 days of...

This one is the DVD release of the year, seriously. I can't believe it's Hosoda's first film as director, either. The time-leaping never muddles the story and the comic timing is spot-on.
I remember being fortunate enough to see this at the Anime All-Nighter last May, and everyone in the...
Yeah, I know most of us here aren't even American but what are your opinions on this? Quite frankly I think US politics has a real impact on what goes on internationally, so I think that the 'change' that their new President promises is going to matter to all of us.
So far Obama has stated...

Review of Berserk #5 by Martin
As consistently brilliant as it is, I'm reluctant to say that this volume is another turning point in the Berserk story. The thing is, not only each successive volume but...
I've enjoyed the Diru tracks I've heard so far (cheers for that by the way, Lupus Inu! ;) ) so I have the CD on preorder.
TBH I wasn't as impressed with the Marrow of a Bone as I was with Withering to Death and Vulgar (plus a couple of early PVs on Youtube from their visual kei days) so I'm...

Berserk seems to be reaching a turning-point as the war between Midland and Chuder focuses on a decisive battle for control of the Doldery stronghold. Following their brave...
I know the licencing of the Macross anime shows is a copyright minefield (which may be what Melonpan is getting at) but I'd like to hear if there are any Beez plans for new OST albums...yeah, I'm thinking Macross Frontier here! ^_^
Your description of the beginning of Gungrave sounds like Berserk actually. The first ep is all bloody violence, a badass guy with a huge sword and demon slaying...the rest of the series is much more character-driven. And utterly brilliant.
