Just finished a combined rewatch of Grimoire Of Zero and Dawn Of The Witch. Dawn is the sequel to Grimoire but has a different story telling style than Grimoire and to be honest I like Grimoire more but both are an enjoyable watch.

Maria the Virgin Witch ep1-3

It seems mad now to think there was a time when anything but the most outlying airing shows could be region locked out of the UK, but I do remember this being one that remained in America jail, despite some very positive comments from the (relatively few?) people who watched it, and I was surprised to see it had quietly popped up on CR.

At any rate, despite the vaguely saucy overtones with all the magical characters notably turning up in ooer-missus fetish gear, this seems a surprisingly grounded and well observed fantasy, whose heretical heroine rails against the violent fate of France’s peasantry during the Hundred Years’ War, but is cursed for her good deeds to lose her power if she should try to pursue her own gratification. As with a number of other titles from its source magazine, such as Witchcraft Works, the series feels conspicuously aimed at the younger end of the seinen demographic, but it certainly offers a more thoughtful and considered discussion of sexual politics in society than I might have expected.

While I've not watched the anime, I have read the entire Maria the Virgin Witch manga (including the bonus side stories 4th Volume that compliments the 3-volume main story series) and I would recommend the anime on the strength of the source material, while I haven't rushed to reread it it's def worth experiencing at least once IMO, and I agree with your assessement of it as surprisingly thoughtful and relatively mature emotionally and mentally in it's approach to it's themes :)

From Overshadowed to Overpowered
Finished
Started off better than it finished.

The Ghost in the Shell
Finished
I was a bit disappointed. Didn't find the humour very funny. It all seemed a bit familiar. Dirty Pair Cyberpunk.
GITS probably did need a lesbian sex scene. 👻
Plenty of fanservice.

Daemons of the Shadow Realm
Episodes 13-17
I enjoyed the first part even though I'm not really a shounen fan. I still had to motivate myself to restart. Once I did 👍.
Plenty of fights. Their are some good side characters and fanservice from Left.
No Statham love so far.
