Hey everyone.

As the post title says I started Youtube! Why did i decide to do it? well I've always wanted to make videos about things I'm passionate about (AKA everything we talk about here)......but there's another reason, it's that I feel that I can do better than much of the low effort stuff out there (not counting our lovely forum members obviously).

There's a lot of negative Anime stuff on Youtube. Clickbait, surface level content with no real critical analysis, stuff that seems to have been researched by a drunk who can't even regurgitate info from a wiki properly and worst of all........people who watch 1 or 2 genres of Anime and have no respect for its history and seem to actually not like it that much or even be that knowledgeable about it and yet are doing REALLY well for themselves somehow.

I also hate how hateful and cynical a lot of content is these days and wanted to make something that's nice and inclusive and fosters a sense of community.

I'm gonna be talking about everything from collecting Anime on physical media to otaku culture and hobbies such as model making & cosplay, Japanese cinema, tokusatsu and other stuff. One thing I REALLY want to cover is mental health and hobbies having had some terrible experiences that kept me off the forum for the best part of 2 years (still trying to get back into the habit of posting regularly).

Right now there is a channel trailer which will fill you in on what I plan to cover AND my first video which is a beginner's guide to collecting Anime on home video. Obviously that one probably won't apply to most of the people here but it is meant for people who are either brand new to Anime or who have to come to collecting it on disc from streaming so you never know! if we have one or two newbies they might get something out of it.

I'd love it if some of you could subscribe and offer some advice and input into the channel via the comments or the community tab within Youtube.

Got another video coming up about attending a Seed talk with Helen Mccarthy about "the art history of Studio Ghibli" :)

A Japanese twitter friend, a lovely gentleman called Hitoshi Tozaki is gonna help me with some content from the Japanese perspective so that will be fun.

Thanks for reading and happy Monday!

Hey everyone. So I'm sure many of you who enjoy reading about Anime and Manga in books and print magazines will know UK author Helen McCarthy. She's a pioneer in writing about Anime in the UK and spearheaded promoting it in the UK in the early 90's along with Jonathan Clements. Well I recently attended a talk with her in May about "The Art History of Studio Ghibli" it was informative and very entertaining and I made this little video about it. Helen herself has seen it (I promoted it on BlueSky) and she was VERY complimentary about it and said some sweet things about it and my writing as well. Bless her, she's lovely.

If you've enjoyed the content so far please consider subscribing. I have a lot of videos on the way about home video releases and comparing formats so if you're a hardcore physical media collector you'll likely enjoy those. Also we've got videos on hobbies like model kits, reviews and even some exclusive photos from my friend Hitoshi in Japan from the Shizouka hobby show in an upcoming video.

I've occasionally thought about doing some kind of an anime podcast (I'd never consider doing something on pooptube) but there's so many podcasts out there now it's just not worth the time or effort it'd take. And he's right, probably 95% of the anime related stuff on pooptube is toxic as hell and bad for your mental health if you should try to watch it.
