Manga Force - UK anime magazine hits national TV

Judging by my bank statements, they have at least been good on that front - I don't think any money went out when I wasn't getting any magazines in the post. But will have to double-check, might have missed it.

Manga Force - UK anime magazine hits national TV

Re: Manga Force Debacle Same here - I couldn't be bothered waiting any longer, so cancelled it yesterday. I signed up as it seemed a convenient way of getting the stuff I used to have on VHS in DVD form with a few extras, but as the magazines were pretty crappy and the company clearly isn't...

Kiki's Delivery Service on Film4 this weekend

Exactly what I was thinking, as Ghibli is about the only anime I can get her to look at. Then again, I'll be at Brazilian jiu jitsu training when this is on, and she'll be having a meal with parents. Might have to record it instead. Unless they're repeating not long after? Film4 seems to do...

What are you watching right now

Cheers for the review - sounds like I should go for the other two first, in that case. Not generally too fond of swordplay films, as they tend to go the wire-fu route with lots of people flying through the air. If there are weapons in a martial arts film, then I prefer the kind of choreography...

Manga Force - UK anime magazine hits national TV

Sure, but the point of paying for things is firstly ownership and secondly supporting the industry. Hence why I always buy my UFC DVDs rather than simply download them - by buying them, it makes it more likely that places like FightDVD will be able to continue making them, and hopefully improve...

    Favorite "Non Anime" cartoons

By the way (presuming it hasn't been mentioned on this thread already), 80scartoons.co.uk is a good site for this kind of stuff - thats where I heard about the Thundercats box set finally getting a release on Region 2. :D Has a section on Pole Position, so if that ever comes out on DVD...

Anyone here remember the 80's band 'Dead Or Alive'?

A much better British (well, Scottish) band with connections to Japan: 8)

    Kung-Fu Hustle

I've said this in other places, but - can't say I liked Kung Fu Hustle, though I did enjoy Shaolin Soccer, and agree there were enjoyable elements to Kung Fu Hustle, particularly earlier on. My enjoyment might have been enhanced had I been fully aware of the numerous references Chow makes to...

what movies are you most lookin forward too

Looking forward to King Conan, but then a lot of people have been looking forward to that since the mid-80s. :? Also looking forward to the Watchmen film, but that again seems to be in production hell.

    Favorite "Non Anime" cartoons

Mysterious Cities of Gold (best theme tune of any cartoon ever, bar none), Dungeons & Dragons, Thundercats, Visionaries, Dogtanian, Dangermouse, Duckula, He-Man, She-Ra and Ulysses 31. Still watching all the stuff I used to enjoy back in the 80s (not alone, judging by previous post  ) -...

    x-men

Used to - from the first issue up until about 2002 (yay for wasting time at uni...). However, preferred New Mutants, particularly the whole Illyana story arc carrying over from X-Men #160, along with the tongue-in-cheek humour of Excalibur and X-Factor (specifically the Larry Stroman period...

Anyone here remember the 80's band 'Dead Or Alive'?

Surely most people on here are too young to remember Dead or Alive? Although the Celebrity BB thing from a while back presumably introduced Burns to a younger generation (lucky them :P ).

    Legend of Drunken Master (II)

Worked for Hapkido, but yeah, I'm thinking my patience might not be rewarded in this case. Still, got the HKL release of Warrior King to look forward to, and all those Shaw Brothers Collection DVDs that have been popping up comparatively recently - I'm woefully lacking in Shaw Bros...

Manga Force - UK anime magazine hits national TV

I've only gone through the Ghost in the Shell DVD from the ones I've received so far, but thats mainly because I was going through UFC 1-16 first. :D As I'd successfully managed to convince my gf that anime really was worth watching, I'd hoped Ghost would be a handy way to get my gf to...

    Dwindling interest in anime

Very true - a regular job really sucks away your time, so things like anime slip down the priority list. One of the many reasons I've clung on to uni by moving on to postgrad: means I only work half the week, spending the rest doing something creative (sort of - I guess a thesis counts :P), so a...
