Vampire Knight Guilty
Episodes 1 - 13

Latest title from my oldest backpile, interesting story with a few plot-twists (for it must be years since I read the manga[if I did read it as my memory is a bit faded]), ending was decent enough, leaving the door open if they ever decided to make another series [as the manga was ongoing when the anime was made]

Change of pace next with a few movies.

Horimiya 1-3 - I've been heavily invested in checking this one out since I found the manga last year(and still can't purchase physically. YEN PRESSSSSS please give me another release...) But they've done a solid job so far. I think the anime take on this has done it some justice in parts as the manga can be up and down in pacing early on, but it's captured the main parts well and not to quick or slow. However it has missed out a lot of other developments which I am sad to see not being explored. I think if this was done as a 2-cour series rather than 1, it would be a lot better. But there we go

Code Geass: Lelouch of the Re;surrection

I actually watched this yesterday but was uncertain how I felt about it and I still kind of am. Overall, I don't feel like it adds anything and while it's a sequel to the alternate timeline the movies setup it all feels like a massive "what if?" and rather inconsiquential. It'll be interesting to see if Z of the Recapture makes any attempt to follow on from what happens in this movie or is just a spin-off set after the events. Also, I feel like some very minor script changes could have made this part of the TV series timeline, would that change how satisfied I feel with the movie? Probably not, the TV series had a great ending and to contiue beyond that and even undo it, feels unnecessary. Visually the movie is still as good as the TV series, only now the mechs are CG which I expected but I do miss them being hand drawn.

Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion II: Transgression (Japanese audio) - Film

So this film in the trilogy is a weird one. The first hour and 30 minutes actually recaps the remainder of the first series pretty well, and then the rest of the runtime blitz through a lot of the second series.

The first 13 episodes of R2 is mostly skipped. Lelouch's amnesia only lasts like a few minutes, and a lot of stuff is not explained properly, which is why you ideally need knowledge of the TV series or the booklet that came with the Japanese release to fill the missing gaps. In addition, Shirley's only appearance is when her memories are restored (which was also in R2 Episode 12) and therefore her death in R2 Episode 13 was skipped, thus leaving her alive in this storyline.

The remainder of the film's runtime (under 50 minutes) mainly focuses on recapping the events of R2 Episodes 14-16 which is where Lelouch attacks V.V. followed by the Emperor who ends up being immortal and eventually hijacking the TVs to declare war against Zero & co. at the United Federation of Nations area.

Overall the first half was pretty good in terms of recapping and pacing, but the last hour I felt could have been a lot smoother. Cutting stuff from the main series is fine but maybe perhaps adding new scenes to TL;DR certain context and events would have helped.

Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion III: Glorification (Japanese audio) - Film

And now I have reached its conclusion. This one was paced a lot better than the second film did, and honestly it's handled as well as the first film did. There really isn't that much that changes compared to the series. The biggest difference is really Shirley surviving the whole thing, and the post-credit scene. Lelouch's fate is never revealed in the film which may surprise folks. The film recaps episodes 17-21 in the first hour and 15 minutes, while episodes 22-25 are recapped in the remaining hour and five minutes of the runtime. Shoutout to Survive Said the Prophet for having a song for the closing credits, they're a great band.

Overall, this film trilogy does a pretty decent job at recapping the entire 50 episode series. The first season and the second half of the second season were both recapped pretty well, while the first half of the second season could have been tackled a lot better. Now the question folks will be asking - can you jump straight into Re;surrection without watching the film trilogy? To be honest, you can. There is only one minor character that has more involvement this time around and that is it. Nevertheless, this film trilogy is worth watching for a quick recap on the franchise's storyline in preparation for the recent film and also helps fill some gaps that needed a bit more context.

Cyber City Oedo 808
Entertaining little OVA series. The UK dub was a lot of fun and a great way to experience it.

Samurai Jack season 4 & 5 rewatch
Overall I'd say season 3 was the best one. But the more adult tone and serialized storytelling of the final series works so well.

Summer Days With Coo
I thought this was going to be a whimsical film but the opening 10mins disabused me of that idea. It was however a fascinating film to watch and I really enjoyed it.

How Not To Summon A Demon Lord
Enjoyed this and found it pretty funny. The fan service and boob jokes are non stop though. The MC was likeable and his social struggles and internal monologue made him more interesting.

Astra Lost In Space
Ok this is a masterpiece. I loved everything about it. The characters, the drama, the mystery story, the action, the animation, the dub cast were phenomenal. Absolutely loved it.

And from the live action MVM films
Rogue Ninja
For only 70mins long there was a surprisingly large amount of story going on. Seemed to filmed in the same places as Ninja Girl but this one was much better

Bangkok Assassins
This is a pretty odd film. At times very brutal, at others weirdly hilarious. Not the best film I've ever seen but I liked the main cast.

Suppose a Kid from the Last Dungeon Boonies moved to a starter town? (Japanese audio) - Episode 4

Code Geass's new film was great fun and I actually liked it a lot more than I had expected. There were only a few minor complaints that I had in general - they could have explained Lelouch's revival a bit better and this applies to both how C.C. brought him back and his return during the temple.

With the former, my preference would have been additional scenes (perhaps as a prologue) that actually go over how Shirley brings Lelouch to C.C. and how C.C. brings him back, rather than summarise it in a sentence that can easily be skipped (to provide a bit of context, Glorification (the third compilation film) basically ends the same as R2 but the post-credit scene hints at Shirley's involvement and that is it).

With the latter, he just randomly comes back without enough context and it just felt like I was missing something. There are some hints near the end of the film, but I feel like it needed to be a bit clearer.

The other minor issue I had is when Lelouch reunites with the rest of the gang. As much as I liked the scene, it did feel a bit forced and out of nowhere and my preference would have been some additional context to have the interaction be much better.

Other than that, the rest of the film I had no issues with in general. The villains aren't amazing but I did like the Princess' Geass ability because it provided Lelouch with a big challenge to face. The action scenes work really well and I liked the whole style of having the story and everything be outside of Japan which reminded me a lot of Psycho-Pass's film and Sinners of the System Case 3.

Man this is dull. The same problems as I've already mentioned and the plot is aimless. Yes you're a spider, so what is your end goal? Acceptance, a way to change/fix it, someone or thing to blame? At the moment there's just a load of blundering around talking to themselves and I also think it would have been better to keep the rest of the cast out of it for now, so it would be as surprising for us as for her when she finds out the rest of her class were also reincarnated. Not much is happening in that part of the story either. Thinking hard about dropping.

If you're watching Osomatsu-san, probably best to watch season 3 episode 16 ASAP before it gets taken down for copyright infringement. They did an almost shot-by-shot remake of Robocop followed by a lengthy They Live parody.
