Just finished rewatching Princess Tutu. It's been too long since I last watched this, maybe 10 years. I remembered it being good, but I'd forgotten just how perfect it is. The comedy, the romance, the drama; it all weaves together seamlessly. I think this series might be the ultimate expression of the magical girl genre in its pure form before Madoka led it into a decade of subversion.

Wanted to finish this before starting on the new series. It’s more gentle fun, but it doesn’t quite recapture the charm of the main series. In part, I think chopping it up into three minute segments messes with the rhythm of the show too much, but it’s also notable that Rin is largely absent during this run.
Lupin III: Part 2 ep23-24 (English dub)
Closing in on the end of the first season. The episode with Goemon being coerced into joining forces with a nebbishy ninja was kind of amusing - his new frenemy is based on real-life thief Nezumi Kozo, effectively making their partnership the equivalent of Goemon and Ebisumaru in the Ganbare Goemon games -but the US pop-culture references that the dub keeps injecting into the script are getting a bit grating now.

Back Arrow ep.1. Finally, a new giant robot show! (sort of) Back Arrow himself seems like an entertaining kind of stupid, like he fell out of Gurren Lagann. Unfortunately, the other characters are an annoying kind of stupid so far. And it's another show with a mysterious wall that definitely doesn't have anything suspicious on the other side.
Otherside Picnic ep.1. Decent premise and looks like it could be interesting, but didn't do a great job of starting in media res. Some of the laziest use of CG I've seen recently; they randomly break it out for mundane things like basic walk cycles or people stepping onto a ladder, and it's really stiff and distracting.

I’m back for my annual anime fest.. usually get through a couple. Re-watched Riding Bean on Amazon Prime (even though I’ve still not watched the Blu-ray version which I backed on Kickstarter 
). Also started Erased which I’ve been wanting to watch for sometime. I think Anime Ltd (& Cyberpunk 2077) are responsible for my venture back into anime... pre-orded Cyber City Oedo on their Christmas offer... be watching some Cyberpunk anime soon too

I've been watching Hanasakeru Seishonen on my own over the last couple weeks, and I finished off episodes 10-15 last night. Wow, I am really loving this anime, it is quickly becoming one of my favorites, with all the political conflict and power struggles between big corporations, national governments, and royal families in play. It is quite a serious and complex drama like I enjoy so much, with a few good twists already - yet at the same time it is also very much a shojo reverse-harem romance story with a really cute but very strong-headed and determined female lead. Everything seems to be just right with this anime, so far. There are 39 episodes in the series, so I'm not even half-way through yet. English subtitles only on both Crunchyroll and also the Blu-ray, which I ordered from Rightstuf and is currently out there somewhere in the USPS holiday/Covid mail backlog...

The rules of the game.
An episode setting up the premise and we only really meet on of the other characters (who seems fun) besides the MC who's your usual loser type. They do meet in one of those only in fiction type coincidences in that "hey, this cute, smart, athletic and popular girl just also happens to be a top player in the same game that the MC is the number one player in Japan and they both happen to live in the same area (actually go to the same school and class!), so why not meet up"
I was going to say not much comedy, but MAL has it as a Rom-Drama rather than a Rom-com.
So I'm a Spider, So What? ep 1
Was a bit too frantic, especially the MC's way of talking, and seemed to lean a bit too much on being meta "if I were a character in a LN..." etc. Not sure on the cg for the spider MC either.

Egg time!
Excellent first episode. Starts with the same set up as Tomozaki-kun, gloomy guy, popular girl, but that's about the only similarly. Both characters have a charm to them and there were some funny moments (it is down as a Rom-com on MAL). Hori already seems to have feelings for Miyamura, but he seems a little dense on that point. I hope the show doesn't meander to a last episode confession from him.
