Seriously, because no one ever said this forum had to be about VIDEO games, just games. I think we've as a mini-community managed to thread-jack two topics now, time we got our own, eh? I'm talking about good old fashioned tabletop gaming here, whether it's Games Workshop, Privateer, or something a bit more....independent. What do you play?

Me, I'm a (lapsed) Warhammer and 40k player with a sideline in a recurring Blood Bowl fetish. Looking to move on to Warmachine when I have the money because that's what my local wargaming club is playing pretty much exclusively right now.

At the moment, though, I'm currently wrapping my head round a deck for the slightly less wargamey World of Warcraft Trading Card Game in order to try and do well at the national championships...

Right, over to you guys....

Well i've only played Games Workshop stuff (aside from the major three, i've played Talisman, Hero Quest, Space Crusade, and nearly all of the specialist games) I was looking at some of the stuff from Rackham minatures (they do the Confrontation and Ragnorok games)

After talking in the aforementioned hijacked topic yesterday i decided to get back into...slowly by finishing what ever unpainted models i have left (which is a lot since i suffered from "its new...buy it now!" syndrome) However i think i'll be limiting my self to 40K this time around, as i think splitting my attention between the three games is what led me to lose intrest

Also (seriously) lapsed 40k'er here. Last time I played is getting on for a decade ago, but I enjoyed what little I can remember of it.

Played Dark Angels in 40k and just recently shelled out on some more when I saw the new robed DA minis. I'm still having trouble accepting the fact that they're all plastic now - most of my old ones are from the days when they were still made of LEAD.

While I was buying my new DA minis I decided I'd buy a Necromunda Escher gang too (yeah, GW is like that, isn't it?). Necromunda always appealed to me before, but I never got round to trying it out.

Lack of cash and moving to a different area with no gamers killed my wargaming really. Still suffer from both, though the former is only a problem because of this other hobby I have, called "Anime".

Heh i remember way back when my brother was actively collecting as -well and i went with him to a GW (back in 96-97 i think) and GW was having a mass sale of all lead minatures, i could of probably picked up some good things there if i was intrested more at that time though i was bought a boxset of beastmen to try and get me into the hobby (they failed it would be the Tyranids to get me into it)

I always wanted to play Nercomunda but no one near me seemed to play it...or any of the other specialist games for that matter, i did want to try battlefleet gothic

Ahhh, lead, the good old days when you could bend a model in half and still bend it back again. I have, somewhere, the ten tonne model that was Ghazgkull Thraka in lead....you could kill someone with him.

And yeah, the community is always a problem....best place to check for GW games is your local store. I know I used to play at mine before I ended up stuck in Aberystwyth where wargaming society was the same night as AnimeSoc

As for Necromunda, yeah, I used to love that, what with it being the old 40k rules. I loved the notion that it was normal people fighting, and not the super powered legions of 40k.

Ghazghkull Thraka, heavy? You wanna try gaming with a lead Space Marine Dreadnaught - you might as well have gone down the gym!

Problem is when your "local" store is 50 miles away. Hell, when your local shop is 15 miles away.

Not any more, I moved back to the Midlands. In easy reach I have Wolverhampton, Walsall, Birmingham, and Dudley :) ....Not that I go to any of them, anyway, I end up at a wargaming club in Kingswinford instead.

And, yes, I'd forgotten the Dreadnaught....largely because my blood angel one is, in fact, a massive ball of paint that may once have had a model somewhere beneath it.

Havn't played Warhammer in a good few years but still occaisionally get out and paint models. Still fancy building a nurgle army just to look nice. If nice would be the correct term.

I think the correct term would be hideous and soul-destroying :p Nurgle never really did appeal to me out of the chaos gods, it was either Khorne or Tzeentch

lets see .....

I play Dwarfs and Tomb Kings in Warhammer fantasy, SPace marines and chaos in warhammer 40,000. Have various blood bowl teams, a few necromunda gangs and plenty of stuff thats not even glued together. I also play Warmachine and Hoards in which I collect Kryx and Trollbloods.

I have been doing the hobby for nigh on 10 years. These days I paint far less but game most weeks at my local gaming club. I have a tournament in Cardiff next weekend in Warhammer Fantasy using my Tomb Kings.

I dunno, he looks like a pretty nice guy:

I've thought about building a small army of Fallen Angels too (let's face it, being the good guys gets boring after a while) - but it would be Slaanesh all the way...

Pfft, Marines are not the good guys.

Genetically engineered warriors defending an utterly corrupt and genocidal regime whose first reaction to independence or difference is to send in an Inquisitor to kill things, then ask any questions later.

What kind of "good guy" sacrifices thousands every day to keep alive a man who is as close to death as can be found.

Then again, this is why I love the 40k universe, there is no black and white. The Orks are a force of nature, the Eldar are a race defeated by their own pride, the Humans are weak and prevented from advancing, Chaos is a force of pure corruption born from man's desires (for good or bad)...even Tyranids can't really be said to be evil...I mean, they're just animals, a force of nature.

Admittedly 3rd edition did try to paper over some of the cracks in humanity and make them more of a "Good Guy" race....but really...the current regime was created by a man who started off as a terrorist and ended up playing god....only to be enshrined as one and forced to live forever. Really need to get round to finishing off reading Gaunt's Ghosts.

I think given the way things are going the Tau seem like the good guy race despite them always been clased as Netural in most things. Though then again they have their mean streak in them
"Hi there would you like to join the greater good?"
"No, get lost this is our planet"
"Oh that's too bad..." *Tau open fire with everything they have, the planet's original inhabitaints are nothing more the dirt*
"Well onto the next world, For the Greater Good!"

:p

I've not read any of the novels or histories for a while, but you're right Chom. That's what attracted me to the DA's in the first place, that they have this terrible secret that they almost fell to chaos. But that makes me quite interested in the ones that did. A quick look into this idea informs me that there are new daemonettes. Might have to go for it after all...

Cheers for re-kindling my interest and helping me empty what little remains in my bank account guys! :thumb:

Currently doing a high elves army and a black templars army. I've had a few armies in the past, but the high elves is my first fantasy army; I've had dark eldar, ultra marines and at one stage I tried orks; But, when I did them, I was younger - So I didn't have enough patience, therefore, I rushed them, alot.

Tau ain't good guys either

it's obvious they're the droid army from phantom menace, u seen their tanks :D

not to mention they have moon death rays (death star?) and mobile suits that look like Gundams (or mine do once i've converted them)

Still, i'm happy with my super tank which consists of 6 rail guns and 2 ion cannons :D

either way, please say no ones an uber geek and owns a 40k titan

That gives me an idea which verges on uber-otaku...

Mech toy wargames! Gundam vs. Gunbuster! Evangelion vs. Patlabor!

hah gundam wars sounds like a plan

instead of hero characters, you have gundam pilots

and instead of gretchins, you have pilot #1 :D

I'd play as the SV2 team, though - Hero Gotoh wins the battle just sitting in his K-Car talking into the radio.
