Video Game Scores / Soundtracks

Hovis!

Vampire Ninja
I was looking at all the previous threads in this section and was very surprised no one had made one in regards to video game soundtracks.

Simple question/s:

What are / is forum members favourite video game soundtracks? Any highlights? Any that you think are underrated? Overrated? Do people own any?

I'll start.

I think my favourites are probably:

* Final Fantasy (all of the ones I've listened too)
* Grandia II
* Katamari Damacy & We Love Katamari
* Metal Gear Solid's
* Shadow Of The Colossus
* Shenmue 1&2
* Zone Of The Enders: The 2nd Runner

If my hand was being forced, I'd probably say that the opening theme for Zone Of The Enders: The 2nd Runner is my favourite single piece of music in a video game.

I think Fable and Killer7 are very underrated and understated soundtracks.

Ones that I own are:

* Fable
* Final Fantasy IX
* Final Fantasy N-Generation
* Final Fantasy S-Generation
* Ico
* Katamari Damacy
* Killer7
* Kingdom Hearts
* Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater
* Resident Evil Code: Veronica
* Silent Hill
* We Love Katamari

Anyway, over to the rest of you.

The video game soundtracks which i think are cool are
- Shadow Of The Collosus
- The Legend Of Zelda (series)
- Metal Gear Solid (series), Including Metal Gear Acid 2
- Baten Kaitos
- Castlevania (series)

there are more i like, but cant really think of some worth Noting right now.

i don't own any, but i like the music whilst playing the games.

I love video game music, but the only soundtracks that I own are:

Katamari Damacy
FFVII
Sega Arcade Selection D-RAM Remix

Other favourite music would include tracks from:
Ridge Racer
Legend of Zelda
Super Smash Brothers Melee
Sonic the Hedgehog

Plus oldies like:
Thing on a Spring
Starwing / Starfox
Wizball
Outrun
Rock 'n' Roll
Quarz
+loads of others!

In fact, I actually went to Video Games live at the Hammersmith Apollo last November. It was most excellent! :D

Ff8 the ending man i love that one :D

I never brothered to buy game soundtracks since if i want to listen to them agian i just get to that spot on the game 8)

Okay, as a music lover, here we go.

Video Game soundtracks I love

Nobuo Uematsu's music (this is in place of a huge list of FF games)
Shenmue series
Sonic 2
Sonic Adventure 2 (the rock-themed tracks)
Alundra
Zelda series (some titles)
Grandia (and a few tracks from GII)
Dragon Quest VIII (can't speak for the rest of the series, but I'm sure they're great)

Most of the stuff I listen to had already been listed. Though I really like Sign by Susumu Hirasawa for Berserk ~Chapter of the Millenium Falcon - Record of the Holy Evil War Chapter~ PS2 game. Anything by Koji Kondo is note worthy too.

I love the Music in... you won't guess it... LocoRoco!

I've heard that has a brilliant soundtrack. Is it in the same mould as the Katamari Damacy music?

Oh, and I think Jade Empire has an underrated musical score.

And how could I forget the Onimusha franchise music for goodness sake?!

Game music that i like, hmm..quite a bit i think..er

Zelda(series)
Nobuo Uematsu's stuff(FF basically)
SSBM stuff is good
Castlevania
don't mind the Halo stuff
some others as well, but those ones stand out a bit more.

Bought the Silent Hill 3 and first Zone Of The Enders soundtracks recently.

The Silent Hill 3 music is bloody incredible. I love the Hometown song. One of the best video game songs I've ever heard.

We Love Katamari - an obvious choice but I'm choosing it anyway.
FFVII - another obvious one, though beginning to sound very dated.
Klonoa & Klonoa 2 - gorgeous, brash and timeless, loads of different styles.
Chaos Legion - Some cracking gothic/orchestral stuff here, the boss tunes can kill a carebear at 20 paces.
Gitaroo Man - Screaming metal, roaring gitters and the pinnacle, a tune called 'born to be bone'. That tune alone features a demonic mariachi band style, a xylophone, metallic and 'thumpy' drums, a boing-boing noise that sounds like Rolf Harris going mental and some almost industrial thudding noises. I can't begin to elaborate how much I like this tune. 'Bee Jam Blues' is another cracker, sleazy trumpet and some creamy smooth vocals. Yum.

I suppose this can count as both a video game and film soundtrack but I bought a copy of the Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children score just under a week ago. It was worth it just for the Advent: One Winged Angel track! :)

And my favourite track between both Katamari Damacy and We Love Katamari is the delightful Cherry Blossom Flower. Though Everlasting Love and Lonely Rolling Star are great too!
