Well Eirtakon 07 MK II was on in Dublin this weekend, the con was a huge sucess with almost a doubling of attendance (from 240 last time to nearly 420 this time) and a huge cosplay contingent but the biggest news came at the closing ceremony when we announced that Vic Mignogna would be next years guest of honour.

Here's the press release

The Ed Man Cometh
November 28th 2007, Dublin Ireland: With the success of Eirtakon 07 MK II still fresh in everyone's minds, the committee has but one announcement: the Ed man cometh!

By that we mean that none other than Vic Mignogna, the voice behind Full Metal Alchemist's main protagonist Edward Elric, will be our star guest at Eirtakon 08. The announcement was made during the closing ceremony for Eirtakon 07 MK II, which was met with massive applause by the 250 strong attendees in the room.

Eirtakon 07 MK II proved to be the most successful anime convention Ireland has ever seen, with over 400 attendees over the course of the three days. People from all over Ireland and abroad came to Dublin to take part in cosplay events, games tournaments and art competitions. Nearly 40 people took part in the cosplay competitions and in total over 80 people dressed up as their favourite anime and manga characters, adding a unique and celebratory atmosphere to The Hub, Dublin City University's premiere event facility.

Throughout the weekend attendees were spoilt for choice. On top of screenings running from opening until closing (AMV Hell proving to be particularly popular), a dedicated PS2 was set up just for Para Para Paradise, numerous discussion panels were held, dozens of random spot prizes were given out by committee members, a hugely popular maid & butler cafe was open on Saturday and Sunday, cosplay and Japanese fashion showcases drew huge crowds and a manga library area, where people could chill and read some of DCU's Anime & Manga Society's books, was in constant use.

Over the next few days, expect the Eirtakon website to be filled up with with pictures, videos and reports from the convention!

Just remember... the Ed man cometh!

About Eirtakon
Eirtakon, currently in its fourth year, is Ireland’s number one anime event and one of the biggest conventions of its kind in the country. Following on from the massive success of Eirtakon 07 MK II, the committee is hoping to make Eirtakon 08 bigger and better again. Expect big announcements on guests, traders, events and a few surprises starting from early next year.

Eirtakon 08 will again take place in The Hub in Dublin City University, one of the most up-to-date event facilities in Ireland, and will be happening on the last weekend of November 2008.

—ENDS—

This will be a treat for all FMA fans and fans of Vic so we hope some of you can make it. I'll keep you all informed of further developments.

It would have been 421 but I was sick

Shame, it was a great con. I actually wish we had an exact figure on attendance, we had at least 418 but we where letting parents accompanying kids in for free and we stopped counting them at 12, the 418 counts them as 12 but we recoken it was actually in the high 420's we just don't like overestimating so we went with what we where sure of

Not much atm, we have chosen a date, again in november but need to confirm it before it's announced.

We chose the provisional committee tonight and for now what we're planning is mostly a lot more of the same, more anime, more cosplay, more panels but with a few other events and competitions.

We're also planning a series of lead up events, including special anime screenings, concerts, cosplay events and a few other things.

Sounds awesome! Can't wait! I hope ADV get involved with Eirtaku in some way. Maybe they could screen some of their upcoming anime in Dublin, and it would awesome to have Matt Greenfield at the con!

Outlawstar do you know what the story with Tomo-dachi is? They never sent us an ad for our conbook and they've normally announced dates long before now.

ADV could well attend the con, we plan to invite them and Revelations given one of ADV and FUNi's biggest actors will be there.

As for getting Matt Greenfield it would be quite easy to get him over given one of our committee is in semi-regular email contact with him since AX but we'll probably stick to VA's for the next few years, more people would know a VA than a 'behind the mic' type person.

EDIT: oops its John Ledford he's been in touch with

It is a bit weird that they havint officially announced the dates but I do know it will DEFINITLY be running around the same time as this year, the dud who runs the con said so at the end of the con this year.
