Don’t fret if you missed Pokémon the Movie: I Choose You! in cinemas last month, because the franchise’s 20th anniversary spectacular is heading to the small screen next week, according to popular fansite BulbaNewsNow, who are reporting that airings on CITV are scheduled for Friday 8th December at 4:00pm and Saturday 9th December at 9:25am!

In celebration of the long-running anime’s monumental milestone, Pokémon the Movie: I Choose You! takes viewers back to Ash Ketchum’s very first days as a Pokémon Trainer with his now iconic partner Pikachu in an alternate reality retelling. In a first for the franchise since 2001’s Spell of the Unown, Fathom Events released the film in select cinemas nationwide last month. Fathom Events describes the story as follows:

Pokémon the Movie: I Choose You! is an origin story highlighting Ash and Pikachu’s first meeting and their adventures as they search for the Legendary Pokémon Ho-Oh. The iconic pair encounter familiar faces along the way, new characters including Trainers Verity and Sorrel, and even a mysterious new Mythical Pokémon, Marshadow. Challenges and epic Pokémon battles abound in this unique new story about the beginning of one of the most beloved friendships in popular culture.

Manga Entertainment will be releasing the film on DVD from 12 February 2018, with a Blu-ray steelbook planned for 30 April 2018.

Sure is a shame CITV is SD-only and PAL, and Manga are releasing the PAL DVD first, but at least we can make do with the low-bitrate HD stream Disney XD provided in the US. It may have artifacts, but at least it's not PAL.
